Burdick, Supervisor Town of Danby 1830 Danby Road Ithaca, NY 14850 Dear Mr. Burdick: I am writing to convey the Planning Board's action on the request you submitted to us from the Cayuga Lake Beagle Club located on Michigan Hollow Road. The Club has asked the National Guard out of Horseheads to do some habitat renewal work on the Club's Beagle training grounds (about 100 acres which is fenced in). Normally this course consists of several miles of six foot wide trails fifty yards apart on which they grow feed for rabbits. Over time succession growth begins to take over and it becomes necessary to bring in heavy equipment to clean out the young saplings. This is very costly for the club. They recently found out that the National Guard does this kind of work for not - for - profit organizations at very little cost, since it is a means of providing training for the guardsmen in the use of their equipment. The National Guard requires the Club to ascertain whether the town board, local contractors or unions might have any objections to the Guard doing this work. After discussing this matter with Stan Carpenter of the Beagle Club, the Planning Board at it's regular meeting on Wednesday, December 16th at 7:30 p.m. voted to 'recommend to the Town Board that they send a letter to the Cayuga Lake Beagle Club stating that the Town Board and the Planning Board have no objections to the proposed work by the National Guard and further that no permit is required from the Town.' If the Guard agrees to do the work it would begin in June and take about one week to complete. If you have questions please contact me. Sincerely yours, Donald C. Graham Chairman
