Updates Dair 1)q._ys — hot & crowded but successful, increased visibility of DYC & yielded 3 potential new DYC members: Christine Guest (Kris has been in email contact with her but she hasn't responded recently), Kevin-Servos (has not responded to follow up outreach), Jeff Walk.uski (who has submitted an application for appointment). lvlembe.rshiv _ Mary Ann said Town. would be willing to appoint an interested Village resident if tl ere was an open Town seat. Mary Ann. will call Jeff & bring his name to the Board next week for action. Justin will talk with new D1-1S principal about possibly finding an interested youth (161-) for a seat.. , We discussed the DYC operati.rig guidelines briefly; Kris suggested that the requirement of 4 for a quorum hamstrings the group when there are vacant scats. 2 suggested changes to discuss further: 1) require majority of filled seats for a quorum; 2) change distribution requirements: either 1. seat for each village and 2 for town and 3 "at large" or 7 seats for residents anywhere in the tonal with an effort to achieve diverse membership. Any changes would have to be approved by the 3 municipalities. Monitorinp,/13rograrns — Kris visit:cd V, Dryden Rec. Program & spoke With youth employee there; didn't get. to DPW to interview their yciuth employee.. Also visited Jr. Firefighter Academy {jointly offered with CCEIDave Hall), Kris' colleague Karen Iisited Brookt:oridale camp which had a new CII° program this summer, coordinated by an Americorps /VTSTA volunteer based at Kris & Karen's office this surniner. Kris shared write ups of the 3 inonitoring visits. Kris did not get. to Freeville carnp due to knee injury; Justin didn't either due to pneumonia. Stephanie shared that]' eeville did not have a CIT program this surnnier but offered special `tween programming. 35 total youth were enrolled this summer. 'When asked about scholarships, Stephanie said requests are growing every year.. They now have an application form and base eligibility on need (free /reduced lunch participation, TKNIF recipient, etc.) Do not require tyimilies to first pursue DSS assistance, They spread 52000 tonal across all applicants. Mary Ann attended the OURS prograin All Things Theater celebratory event, was very impressed vrith Julie's shills v,lith the ;,youth and enjo yed the skits put on by the participants. Dryden Youth Development Task force — no ri;cent meetings, one scheduled soon. Oct. 2 Will be a big, all day suinrriit witl-i a presenter from the Search lristitute, DYC members will be invited. Recreation — Melissa reports lots of busy, fun things; summer Music in the Park is wrapping up; Movie in the Hollow scheduled for 8118 ( "Up" will be shown); Dryden Lake Fest. this weekend will include fireworks; summer sports are wrapping up and fall sports plaiming is underway. Dryden Youth Opportunity Fund Youth lair — scheduled for 9/11; Kris will contact the organizer again to check in; Stephanie &f, .Tustin agreed to be contacts to coordinate DYC participation via e0 mail. Will probably use Dairy Day`; display. Kris will seM them organizer's contact info. 2011_ Funding Applications — Deadline is Sept. 3; Stephanie agreed to send a reminder to all programs while Kris is on vacation; Kris will get leer the contact info,. OSharing of DYC annual report — Justin shared with school board & thanked them for ongoing support and making space available. They were glad to get the info. Stephanie shared with V: Freeville; JoEllen shared with V. Dryden and 7'. Dryden. Budget updates — Kris shared info on projected 2011 budget._ 6.9% minimum reduction in county funding plus ongoing state reductions. DYC will ask Town to hold its contribution at 2010 levels to minimize ciut:s to programming; Mary Ann is not sure this will be possible but accepted the request of $4.1,252 frorri DYC and will see how her budget planning goes. If Town only matches county & state funding, total available is projected to be $69,662, down over $10,000 fron) 2010. Other — Kris shared Oct. 16 as date for countywide collection day for unwanted household pharmaceuticals; event will be held at TCAT. Kris also shared ihat'rompkins County middle and high school students will take a survey in late Oct., arr update of the 2008 survey which will provide valuable risk and protective factor info to planning groups, schools and others. This year, all 6 Tompkins school districts will participate; axpccting � 4500 -5500 students to take the survey. Data and reports will be available by the end of the year. Sept. 29, lunchtime, is a celebratory event Cor the Municipal Youth Services system (all county youth com isslonSPcouneils); Kris shared the first of 3 Dryden posters that: are prornotinp youth dowelopnncnt. for the event, 'Next meeting: September 14, 2010 for funding allocations for 2011.
