Minutes
Present: Jol llen Bailey, Tom Fuchs, InShik Lee, Cynthia Waterman, Justin DiMatteo, Kris Bennett
JoEllen called the meeting to order at 6:05. Minutes from Oct. and Nov. were approved unanimously.
Youth Needs Assessment Update Discussion re. updating the 2006 assessment. DYC members decided to
include these components:
Data and report from fall, 2008 NY,S Youth Development (Risk and Protective) survey taken by
Dryden 6 -12 graders (as well as Tompkins students in Groton, Ithaca, Lansing and Trumansburg).
(Feb.) Kris will keep DYC posted on arrival of data & reports. Responsible - Kris
■ Middle & high school counselors /social workers (Mar., Apr. or May)— Responsible - Justin
■ Rec. Dept. — Melissa and /or Andrew (Jan.) — Responsible - Kris
• Law enforcement — Margaret Ryan (no school resource officer anymore) — Responsible - JoEllen
■ Probation Dept. — PTNS activity in Dryden (time TBD) — Responsible Kris
Cornell Coop. Extension (Dave'Linda/Jen/Julie) — youth needs/trends they observe — Responsible —
(Mar. or Apr.) Kris
■ Faith community — not sure whom we could ask about this. Responsible — not decided
Goal is to hear from all key informants and review data by summer and write tip the needs assessment so it
can go out with 2010 funding applications and be a part of DYC decision making.
Revisions to Funding Application
Budget updates Kris has not yet sent funding award letters. County budget was passed and supported our
Scenario A allocations but now the NYS budget crisis may have an impact, doesn't yet know the impact of
the governor's proposed budget. Suggests we include some provisional language in funding award letters
( "contingent on anticipated funding from NYS" ).
Tabled until .Ian. Will discuss both process & forms.
Membership updates JoEllen has requested reappointment from V. Dryden. Cynthia will contact Patty at
Town Hall to request reappointment. JoEllen will contact Stephanie to see whether she is interested and V.
Freeville is willing to reappoint her. If not, Kris will connect with Dan Barrow, new Freeville rep. on
County Youth Services board.
Toni was nominated as chair of DYC for 2009 (moved by JoEllen, seconded by InShik). JoEllen was
nominated as vice -chair for 2009 (moved by InShik, seconded by Justin). Elections will take place in Jan.
Recreation updates Tabled until .Ian.
2009 Calendar for DYC Members selected these meeting dates for 2009:
Jan. 20 Feb. 24 April 7 May 12 June 9
Sept.8 Oct. 20 Nov. 17 Dec. 15
Meetings will take place at 6:30 PM at Town Hall (unless DYC revises this).
Meeting was adjourned at 7:00 PM.
