HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-11-18® Dryden Youth Commission November 18, 2008 Minutes Attendance: Julie Newman, Justin DiMatteo, Stephanie McConnell, JoEllen Bailey, Linda Schoffel, Thomas Fuchs, Cynthia Waterman The September 21 minutes were unanimously approved. J. Ne%«nan gave a report on O.U.R.S. and reminded us that there is 3 weeks left of official programming for the Fall. Programs are going well. Some counselors say that the management of discipline is sometimes difficult and J. Newman at times has to step in to resolve some issues. The insurance company now requires van drivers to be a minimum of 25 years old. Though supplies are good, J. Newman discussed a "wish" list of the following: `Nish List: 1 more van drivers needed 2 increased hourly compensation IN TV hook up to a DDR 4 Long -term grant funding 5 Exploration of other fundraising opportunities L. Schoffel told us of new hire ,fen Hardy (the "new" Tom) to refill the vacant 172 time position (the other 1/2 time of her job is with the "Youth Council" in Ithaca) L. Schoffel also discussed RYS Youth Employment Programs, the Lansing &. T- burg/Ulysses programs as well as Summer TAN F. The suggestion was made to explore youth employment opportunities in Dryden with the possibility of starting a program. It was suggested I'or members to contact the following municipalities: Town of Dryden (Cynthia), Village of Dryden (JoEllen), Village of Freeville (Stephanie). Cynthia will contact Bambi Hollenbeck while JoLllen and Stephanie will contact the clerks of their respective municipalities. For next meeting (December 16), we will 1 Add the Youth Needs .Assessment to the agenda and firm up plans for a Youth Needs .Assessment. (see what happened in 2006, collect Dryden Youth Needs info Isom interviews & questionnaires of representatives of programs we fund, get a list of people on the 2006 list etc.) 2 Look at and edit the Funding Request forms 3 Invite Melissa and Andrew for an update from recreation 4 Place a notice in school bulletin and update school board members. ® Respectfully submitted, T.
