Introductions were made. We welcomed Melissa who has been the T. Dryden Recreation Coordinator since fall. She is trying to extend her department's role beyond youth sports into more adult programming and special events: Floating Classroom, Music in the Park, Music in the Hollow (Ellis Hollow sunnner music). She is also working with Ken "Teeter on a rec, master plan. She is willing to include the DYC in this process if community forums are held, DYC could piggy back to gather info, too. Reports from CCE.'s Dryden Youth Services Tom & Dave distributed their reports. Tom said that the Recipe for Success family event drew approx. 30 people and was very successful. His Pay it Forward (youth leadership) project has a new name, chosen by the participants, HOPE (Helping Out People Everywhere), and structure (board of directors) which will allow youth who cannot participate weekly due to scheduling conflicts to continue their association. Youth will be involved in choosing the activities they work on. Dave spoke about the always popular Animal Helpers, Teen Challenge Games and the ongoing Primitive Pursuits. A winter overnight for the latter is planned for Feb. for the "seasoned" participants. Linda distributed a 2007 year end budget (all but $59 was used) and a revised projected 2008 budget. Melissa asked how many youth participants served in the program are "at risk ". Tom, Dave & Linda replied that it's ® hard to say, depends on the program and the definition of "at risk" but approximately 1/3 to %. are referred, on free /reduced lunch or have other risk .factors. Additionally, they reported that once youth feel comfortable with Dave or Tom, they often disclose info about risk factors, such as foster care, low SES, etc. OURS update The deadline for rdsumds is this week. Linda, Kris and OURS volunteers will review them next week and decide whom to interview. Stephanie volunteered to participate in the interviews. CCE has not yet been successful in accessing the $5000 from the Town for the van due to a change in supervisor and lack of clarity for the process. Linda & Kris will continue to work on this. Melissa suggested talking with Dawn Bogdan at Town Hall. The OURS program is having its big fundraiser on Feb. 8 (Kris distributed info). They would welcome DYC members & families to attend, sell tickets and/or volunteer. Election of 2008 officers Nominated as chair — JoEllen Bailey, vice -chair — Cynthia Waterman. InShik moved the slate, Tom seconded. The vote was unanimous in favor. Minutes iblinutes from Dec. were approved unanimously. Goals After reviewing the 2007 goals, the members voted unanimously to renew them for 2008. Membership Update InShik was appointed to a new 3 year term by the Town. Kim Skenk submitted her paperwork to the Village which will vote on her appointment on Jan. 17. That ® leaves just a V. Freeville opening. ® 2008 Calendar & Liaisons Kris will email the 2008 calendar to all since she forgot to bring ® copies. All reviewed the liaison list and agreed to serve in the roles listed in the Dec. minutes. Police & Community Feedback Kris thanked Stephanie for facilitating the receipt of feedback about this year's school P&.0 programs from teachers. Feedback forms from 14 teachers were reviewed by DYC members. Feedback was very positive. Margaret Ryan has been doing the presentations and is skilled in working with youth. All, or almost all, presentations for the year are completed. All DYC members are pleased to see both good feedback and better communication about this program. Kris will make copies of the forms to share with Margaret when she attends the Feb. DYC meeting (provided she can clear a scheduling conflict.) DYC members want to continue use of the feedback fora, which will be edited slightly (add "topic" to top of form). Other Kris reported that requests for 2007 annual reports have been sent. She will aim to have a draft ready in March. Kris worked with Bambi Hollenbeck to have DYC portion of Town of Dryden webpage updated. Kris' office will be hosting a community event in the Dryden/Groton/ Lansing area on underage drinking in March or April and hopes DYC members will attend. Her dept. is working to interest all 6 county school districts in administering a youth survey to provide valuable information on youth risks and strengths.
