HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007-02-27Dryden Youth Commission Minutes February 27, 2007 Minutes Present: JoEllen Bailey; InShik Lee, Kris Bennett JoEllen called the meeting to order at 6:40 conducted. Since there was no quorum, no official business was Annual report Kris shared drafts of the 2006 DYC annual report and asked for others to read, correct and comment. She included the recent needs assessment summary in this year's report. She will email the report to other DYC members for review and comment. Once it's finalized we should plan on how to share and present it to the Town and Villages and others. Membership The Village of Freeville decided not to appoint Tom Fuchs to their open seat. Tom does not live in the Village and the Village prefers to appoint someone they know, who lives within the Village limits and who can be a link between the Village and the DYC. The Village included a notice in a recent mailing to all residents about the open seat. Kris and JoEllen have been unsuccessful in reaching Alan Macomber who has not attended a meeting since July, not sure whether he is interested and able to continue. Police & Community Feedback JoEllen will contact Dryden Elementary School to find out the status of our efforts to get feedback about the program. (Alan had agreed to do this but no one ® knows how far he got with it.) Kris will email JoEllen the forms so that she can get them to the school if Alan didn't already do this. Youth Emnlovment Alternatives Kris shared a summary of youth employment options for 2006 that could take the place of Youth Conservation Corps, PropramfAQenev Amount Puroose ft vouth Dryden Police Dept. Cornell Cooperative Youth assistants to Tom & Dave, Tom to develop other job sites (in Extension $3,500 school: library, office, after school program, bus garage, artroom 5 clean u + in community; also at Brooktondale Farmers Mkt, Cornell Cooperative further discussion Extension needed Job prep (i.e. lifeguard training, first aid) TBA Brooktondale camp Msgs. left, unable to Counselors ? reach Dryden School District further discussion Lifeguards at high school pool (Vicki Alexander) TBA needed I UTAL $11,754 Kris will continue to talk with Vicki Alexander at DI-IY about lifeguards and to try to reach Brooktondale. The DYC will be asked to vote on this in March. Other Kris distributed notices about 3 upcoming forums being held about the County budget and encouraged members to attend and share the info with others. One forum is this Saturday in Dryden. This is an opportunity to let the County board know what your priorities are, including support of funding for youth sen:ices. Other, planning for March and future meetings CCL will attend March 20 meeting and share• their annual report. Kris shared the Coalition Vitality and Accountability Assessment and suggested the DYC review it at an upcoming meeting as a way of evaluating itself. All agreed, we will pass it out at the March meeting, ask all to review it and will do it jointly in April. Other future goals — set up a joint meeting with the Rec. Commission (Kris will contact Jen Dube), invite Georgiana Purdy to attend and report (Georgians represents Freeville on the County Youth Services Board; the Village and Town of Dryden seats are open.)
