Program Presentations: Police and Community — postponed until May or June. Kris will contact Margaret Ryan to set this up. Youth Conservation Corps — Allen Green from the IYB shared photos from the 2002 YCC. They are gearing up for this summer; suggestions on work projects would be appreciated, Jennifer suggested building bleachers at the ball park. 2003's YCC will be slightly shorter in hours due to funding reductions. He is still hoping to secure funding to make up the deficit; Karl has agreed to help with this. Current plans for 2003 have Jim D'Alterio working half -time with YCC; there will be 1 -2 other IYB staff to provide the other supervision. In addition, they may hire a YCC "alum" to be the assistant. Carissa is handling recruiting of applicants again this year. So far one application has been returned and she expects others soon. Priority will go to youth who haven't worked at YCC before but if last minute openings remain she will fill them with repeaters who are interested, Allen suggested running an ad in the Shopper to recruit applicants; DYC members felt this was a good idea but clarified that the cost of the ad should be paid by YCC not CCE. Cornell Cooperative Extension — Dave Hall has a big Primitive Pursuits Day planned for May 17 and needs volunteers to help. His other programs (per his monthly report) are going well. One that's been surprisingly fun has been stilt walking. He's making plans for his summer programming; most details are in place. While they are colorful the DYC clarified that they need an image that can be reduced to go on a letterhead, will work in black and white and will represent the DYC. Linda Schoffel was happy to meet everyone and explained that she is learning the system, doing site visits. She is available if anyone has questions, She asked for clarification on the 2003 budget re, youth employment; Kris clarified that the DYC allocated $3267 for CCE for youth employment. Both Carissa and Linda were glad to hear this! For future program advertising the DYC would like the Shopper ads to continue and also take advantage of the school newsletter which is free.
