HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-02-18® Dryden Youth Commission February 18, 2003 Minutes Present: Jean Simmons, Nita Baldwin, Karl Heck, Eric McConnell, Kristen Blackman, Carissa Mann, Dave Hall. Absent: Penny Green - Brown, Walt Matyjas, Russ Kowalski Excused: Kris Bennett Jean called meeting to order at 6:05 pm. COOPERATIVE EXTENSION UPDATES: Carissa passed out copies of article that was in the paper. Girls group- Loved going to the Groton Nursing facility. Would like to return there again. Creativity Club- working on second Teen line, This one will have more pictures, color. There are around 10 girls for these groups. About nine new kids have joined the various groups after reading about them in the shopper. Grant money available for some type of physical activity. Possibly horseback riding in the summer. Grant available that may be used to help with Youth Conservation Corps project that would be visible to the public. This information will be passed along to Allen Green. Eric mentioned the possibility of a project at the Dryden Lake Park to spruce it up a bit. Karl Heck will talk to Kris Gardner about the grant. Logo Campaign- Carissa showed some of the ideas for our logo. Talked that March 14 will be the deadline for entries. Maybe approach the art teachers about this. Dave— Primitive Pursuits having a big campout in Dave's big back yard. (23 people). ABC's of Wool going well with Mary Ellen Donaldson. First Aid starting up on the 26 °' with full enrollment. Archeiy went a couple times during the ® week. Lots of individual attention. Magic and Reality Check didn't happen. Outing Club meeting with Monica. Stilt walking with Dan Klein. Talked about writing up programming in school bulletin before the end of the school year. Ellie Roberson helping Dave with summer programs. UPDATES FROM COUNTY YOUTI.1 BUREAU: Kris met with Freeville mayor, Tom Lyson. 14C requested copies of the commission's minutes. Would like to see some of the youth that are active in some of the programming come to one of the trustees meetings. There will be a village picnic at the end of June. Maybe this would be a good time to advertise programming. Kris talked with Allen Green, asked him for a scaled back proposal that would cut hours not the youth jobs. "TCAT shelters a possibility for a project, maybe they could put up some money towards this. Allen suggested that maybe a commission member should approach them about this. Kris also spoke with Reba Taylor. She was fine with the funding decisions that we made. Mark Varvayanis mentioned that he too would like to see some presentation by youth at one of the town board meetings. Jane Converse has been appointed to County Youth Board as Dryden Representative. Budget on last month's report: Formula error - "Total rec, for 2001 - $82,676. For 2002 - $82,302. Kris mentioned article in Courier. Dan Schmoe didn't get the Recreation Director Job but willing to attend our meetings. Kris sent list of goals, mission statement ideas, but without a quorum we decided not to work on these. Minutes and Election of new officers were not approved without quorum. Meeting adjourned 7:05 PM. Next meeting March 18, 2003
