Marie will be assigned to Dryden and will attend future meetings. Kris is scheduling a meeting with Alan Green from IYB's Youth Conservation Corps to clarify roles and responsibilities for this summer's program. Carissa will advertise YCC and refer kids to IYB. Program Presentation Brooktondale Summer Camp - Edie Spaulding has been involved with the camp for 8 - 9 years. Last year's enrollment was in the 60's, in past years it was as high as 110. but she thinks there's competition now among the many programs. They plan to try earlier enrollment this year, perhaps in March. They serve kids 4'/2 to 12, including older kids as CIT's. Last summer they expanded hours and now offer 2 options: a morning program ($17 /day) or a full day (8:30 - 5:30) program ($22 /day). Kids can sign up for the whole summer or just a week at a time. Their goal is to break even financially. Rather than keeping kids together by age, last summer they grouped kids by activity area; the mixed age groups worked very well and they plan this approach again this summer. All activities are offered on site and include beading, boondoggle, painting, tie dying, outdoor games. The ratio is 1 adult to 12 children; they plan to do hiring in May for 4 junior counselors. 4 - 5 senior counselors and 1 director. Carissa and Edie will link re. youth jobs since Carissa may know of potential employees for Edie. After Edie left, concern was voiced over the cost of this program; it seems too expensive for many families. Kris will bring copies of their budget to the next meeting so we can review it. The Commission will not rescind allocations for this year but wants to make sure its funds are providing affordable programs. Annual Report- Kris handed out draft Annual Reports she'd prepared from the reports received from funded programs. Commission members will review it and contact Kris for any corrections by the end of the week. Kris will then have the report printed so it can be distributed. Planning, evaluations - Kris asked if DYC wants evaluation only from CCE or also from other funded programs. All agreed we should get evaluations from all programs. There was discussion about how to get evaluation and what form to use. We will ask other programs that are coming to future meetings to bring their evaluation form (if used); Kris will contact Edie Spaulding to get Brooktondale Camp's. Kris passed out copies of monitoring form to all DYC members. Web page - Penny has not yet connected with the right person at Dryden Schools to ask about whether a youth employee could do webpage work on a school computer. Kris passed out proposed changes to the DYC webpage as an interim step until we decide what the webpage should and shouldn't include. Nita will see if the update can be made from Town Hall. New business, next meeting - Our next meeting will be March 19 at 6:00 pm. Diana Radford will do a program presentation of the Freeville Summer Camp; Mary will contact the Police & Community Program to ask them also to attend. We would like to hear the program presentations first (6:00) and then have our business meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 pm. Dryden Youth Commission Minutes Page Two February 19, 2002
