The minutes from December were approved. The officers proposed last month were elected; Penny and Kristen will serve as co-chairs for 2002. Budget Update - Kris said that the finances look the some as reported in Dec. with $960 less in county /state funds. We do not yet know whether the Town will reduce their match by $960. Kris will ask them to leave it in. If they do, the DYC will use this money for municipal youth jobs to help offset the loss of revenue to V. Freeville and Dryden programs. If they do not, deciding to keep their match equal to the county /state contribution, it will reduce by an additional $960 the funds that the DYC will have for 2002. We cannot finalize this until we hear from the Town. She has meetings scheduled with Mayors Lyson and Taylor but has been unable to reach Spvr. Varvayanis to schedule one. Membership Update - Kristen will follow up again with Jennifer Hunter from the Town. She is interested in serving on the DYC. Kris has sent her some materials. Walt had suggested that we put a public service announcement in the newspaper to advertise when we have openings. The Commission reviewed a draft announcement that Kris had prepared and agreed that it was fine. It will be ready for future openings or if Jennifer's appointment doesn't work out. All were disappointed that she is leaving so soon, especially after making a 2 year commitment during her interview. Kris said that the YB and CCE have discussed the possibility of Dryden hiring Corisso Mann who has been the part -time P.M. with the Joint Youth Commission for 2 years and is interested in working full -time, (half time each with JYC and Dryden). Perhaps this would mean someone would stay in the position for a longer time. The Commission decided they would be interested in interviewing her but want to interview other applicants as well. Jean, Kristen, Penny and Colleen agreed to help Kris and Amanda with interviews on Jan. 28. Goals, liaisons, committees, monitoring for 2002 - Although goals had been approved at the last meeting, DYC agreed to make a special focus this year on reaching more youth, especially those not currently participating with programs, a broader variety of youth, and with getting youth to participate on the DYC. Connected to this is whether we should do a needs assessment, We will discuss these more at future meetings. Members signed up to be program liaisons and to monitor them at least once during the year. (sign up sheet attached) Kris will bring blank monitoring forms next month.
