HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001-05-1501 Dryden Youth Commission Minutes May 15, 2001 Present: Penny Green, Walt Matyjas, Colleen Emerick - Daniluk, Nita Baldwin, Marie Sirakos, Amanda Verba, Karen Coleman Absent: Kristen Blackman, Mary Bachner Meeting called to order at 7:15 PM April minutes read and approved. Youth Program Updates- Amanda referred to Dave's written report. Most programs are going well due to low enrollment the Trail Project was cut short, however the two participants (and Dave) did some preliminary work in preparation for another time. The Bear Tracking workshop was canceled. Working on the Primetime conference which will take place on the 9th of June. Marie has a lot of youth interest in Youth for Hire project but not one call from the community. Has postered and will continue to recruit jobs. We may want to rethink this project and spend time on finding local employment for youth. Other projects are going well. Is beginning to meet with the Club Dryden Group hoping to have some youth from last summer return to the planning group. Discussion of recruitment of different youth, suggestions of newsletters, newspapers, e- mail, one page flyers to 5`h grade students so they can anticipate next year . May be able to get onto the Town Web page , Marie will talk to Bambi about this. Summer Conservation Corps- Two projects have been mentioned the Finger Lakes trail —build and repair lean to, and work on the Dryden Lake nature trail, and the one behind the school. Marie will follow up with IYB /Jim about this. Dryden Budget adjustment — Karen suggested that we move the allocated funds for middle school activities from the Dryden After School program to Cooperative extension to be used for employment and program (Club Dryden Expenses. Motion was made and seconded. Karen will follow up on exact amounts and report at the June meeting. Amanda discussed response from the free job advertising, which included colleges, newsletters and list serves there was no response. In an effort to have someone hired for the fall she suggested that she advertise in the local papers, Dryden Tidbits, Ithaca Times, Shopper and whatever free posting available. We hope to interview in the late summer for this position. Commission members are encouraged to recruit and get the word out. Marie will talk with Kevin Rosen the current Ameri Corp staff person at Dryden. Next meeting will be June 19th at the Town Hall. Meeting adjourned at 8:25 PM.
