HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-02-16Dryden Youth Commission Minutes February 16, 1999 Dryden Town Hall Present: Jean Simmons, Kristen Blackman, Penny Green, Karen Coleman, David Hall, Nita Baldwin Absent: Barbara Hopkins (ill), JoAnn Myer Foland (ill), Tracy Kurtz (ill), Roger Riley (moved) Karen and Nita notetakers. Penny called meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. Introductions were made. Bonnie Hill talked about the ice skating program, transportation to the Rink and recruiting of the kids. In 1998, 115 kids skated. So far in 1999, 75 kids have signed up. Funds help cover staff and transportation expenses and kids pay amount for skating. Parents are invited to participate, extra hands are always welcome when it comes to tying skates. Allen Green talked about the Conservation Corp Program - how it works with the kids working for and being paid by the Town of Dryden and the supervisors being paid by the City Youth Bureau. The materials are paid by the municipality or organization getting the structure. He talked about the different play structures and the bus stop shelters that the Corp has built. Diana Radford, Freeville Trustee, wrote saying that the Village of Freeville would like another play structure, this time at Groton Avenue Park, if it is possible. All talked about the different projects in the past and how the project was chosen. David asked Allen when will the project get selected for this summer? It was decided that Allen should come back in April with the choices and we will discuss. That will give David and JoAnn time to advertise and interview the kids for the Corp. Networking Meeting, 3/13/99, Village of Lansing Hall 3. AidsWork , Act Troupe presentations, 2/20 and 2/27/99 Minutes for January were approved. Penny Green will contact Margaret Ryan, of Police and Community, and invite them to present their program with a quick review of 1998 and what is planned for 1999. Meeting adjourned @ 8 :30 p.m.
