Dryden Youth Commission
minutes
June 16,1998
Attending: Steve Kirsch, Vicki Alexander, Tracy Kurtz, Laszlo Engel

Approval of May minutes.
Youth Development - JoAnn reported on the finishing up of the school year
program and the recognition of S Time to Talk mentors by the Dryden Kiwanis
Club. Will begin Smart Start at the end of August. See attached report.
David reported on the outings and Adventure in nature workshop. He gave
updates on the summer camp plans. See attached report.
Conservation Corp. - All youth have been hired at this point. Dan Barton has
been hired as the assistant to Monica. It appears that all is set for-the
playground in Varna.
County Proposal /June 9 - meeting. Steve gave a brief report on the meeting
held at the County Youth Bureau re: 1999 -2001 funding proposal. The basic
proposal would ask the County for an increase of 3% each year for the three
year period, plus include a block grant for employment programs of $5000 and
to consider a one party contract for outer ring. This will be voted on Monday
June 22. A meeting for early July has been set with the Village Mayors and Town
Supervisor County Youth Bureau Reps and Steve. These proposals will be
discussed along with general Youth Commission issues.
Community Directory - Brief discussion of how to distribute collected requests for
listings. Karen will use this information to create a form and mail it to members
who will distribute to community members. A request for this information will also
be distributed to local news media. The July meeting will be devoted to the task
of formatting and preparing information. It is our plan to have one of the Youth
Employment staff enter this information into a computer. We will follow up with
Barbara and JoAnn on this possibility.
