SPECIAL ORDER OF BUSINESS:
2.1 Support for the City of Ithaca’s Application for a 2019 Climate Smart
Communities Certification Grant - Resolution

WHEREAS, the City of Ithaca will be applying for grants to suppor t its Green New Deal
initiatives, in particular a Green New Deal Action Plan; and
WHEREAS, the Green New Deal Action Plan will be a comprehensive roadmap that
outlines specific activities the City and the Ithaca community will undertake to achieve its
greenhouse gas emissions and social and economic inequality reduction goals as
outlined in the Green New Deal; and
WHEREAS, this project represents a valuable opportunity to advance the City of Ithaca’s
environmental leadership; and
WHEREAS, the City of Ithaca hereby requests financial assistance from the New York
State Climate Smart Communities Grant Program pursuant to Environmental
Conservation Law Article 54 Title 15; and
WHEREAS, the City of Ithaca certifies that it will provide up to $100,000 of matching funds
pursuant to the requirements of Environmental Conservation Law Article 54 Title 15; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City of Ithaca Common Council does hereby endorse and support
the 2019 Climate Smart Community Grant application an d commits to a 50% match for
this project should the grant be awarded; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the City of Ithaca hereby authorizes City Sustainability Planner Nick
Goldsmith to act on its behalf in submittal of an application through the Consoli dated
Funding Application for $100,000, to be used for a Green New Deal Action Plan.
