HomeMy WebLinkAboutMN-PSI-2018-09-06 PUBLIC SAFETY AND INFORMATION COMMISSION MINUTES PRESENT: Chair Jackson Commissioners (4) Comella, Segerson, Holmes, Spadolini OTHERS PRESENT: Common Council Liaison: Gearhart Fire Chief Parsons Fire Department Liaison: Watros Public Information Specialist Faraday ABSENT: Commissioners: Cotraccia, Hayton, McLaurin Meeting was called to order at 6:04pm APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Approval of the Augu st 6, 2018 Public Safety & Information Commission Minutes By Commissioner Spadolini: Seconded by Commissioner Holmes RESOLVED, That the minutes of the June 4, 2018 Public Safety & Information Commission meeting be approved as published. Carried Unanimously Chair Jackson discussed items of interest, mentioned the Ithacast podcast as a resource for City information. Budget season is happening on both the City and the County level. Common Council Liaison Gearhart informed the PSIC that the Police Benevolent Association addressed Council stating a need for more staffing. Public Safety/ Information: Presentation: Ithaca Fire Department. Chief Parsons presented information about the Ithaca Fire Department. Topics included an overview of what model the IFD works under, budget distribution, types of calls responded to and where those calls originate, IFD training process, changes in recent years regarding operations and funding, challenges faced. Discussion- Items of interest for the Commission: Commissioners discussed Dogs on the Commons. Commissioner Comella will look in to Date: September 6, 2018 Time: 6:00 PM Location: Common Council Chambers, 3rd Floor, City Hall Public Safety and Information Commission September 6, 2018 2 other municipalities with public pedestrian malls- especially Burlington, VT, and what their policies are regarding dogs, challenges they face, and how rules are enforced. Future Agendas will distribute one week before the meeting for review and suggestions for additional items. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 1, 2018 ADJOURNMENT: On a motion, the meeting was adjourned at 8:37 pm.
