Town of Danby Planning Board

floor: Rick Parsons questions trailers in Danby. He is con -
the possibility of George Van-de Mark starting a trailer park
near his neighborhood.
John Van de Mark informed him that a trailer park could not be started
without a P.U.D.
Ted Merritt stated that his original statement at the Town Board meeting,
about allowing mobile homes in the town of Danby did not mean trailer
parks. He is concerned with the lack of growth in the town, also with the
costs of buying or building a new home. Many young couples and senior citi-
zens can not afford to buy or maintain many of the larger and older homes
in town. He is wondering if it might be possible to include a section in
the zoning ordinance for mobile homes, that would have strict regulations
governing the set -up and maintainance of such. All of this is just spec-
ulation. Any such project would need to be approved by the town.
Jim Hovanec feels that property values will drop if trailers are allowed
in indiscriminately. If allowed in at all, they should have the same reg-
ulations as a P.U.D. He said that he has had calls from realtors, who are
concerned that if trailers are permited they wont be able to sell any
houses in Danby. He also stated that they-feel that Danby has too much
conflict and no leadership, thatis the reason for no growth. Jim added
that all town meetitgs should be advertised in the Journal,. and on the
town bulletin board;
Mr. Burgess is concerned with the home on the corner of'Jersey Hill Rd.
and Layen Rd. He said that.there seems to be a lot of people moving in
and out, much like a hotel. He.also said that he is concerned with the
possibility of a. trailer park on the.Van de Mark property. He does not
want a trailer park in his neighborhood.
Mrs. Burgess feels the same as her husbAnd. They have seen a lot of gravel
being drawn in and there seems to be some sort of construction started.
Eloise Finney feels that trailers could be a help to the elderly. Some
times trailer parhs are not the answer. People like the privacy of their
own home on their own property.
Mark Lee has a bad.feeli.g for trailers. He has seen them in many areas
that look very bad. He also feels that people should be able to use their
own property as they see fit.
Dorothy Roberti Feels the same as Mark Lee.

John Benjamin feels that as long as there are regulations on putting
up a home there should be regulations on putting up a mobile home, It
is very hard to start oi}t.now with the high cost of homes and mortgage
rates being what they are, There are many people in this town that may
not have a home in town if they hadn''t started in a trailer, He just
happens to be one of them, He said that he has been in many areas that
have new homes and has seen new home] that have been allowed to run down,
He feels it is not fair to judge people by the type of home they can
afford to buy.
Rolland Manley feels the same as John Benjamin, he also started 'nut in
a trailer, Many young couples just getting started cannot afford a new
home. Many senior citizens cannot afford the maintainance and taxes on
their present homes,
Frank Haskins said that he has had phone calls from people that are against
trailers, He also submitted.the name of Joel Gagnon, who would like to
serve on the planning board,
John Van de Mark said that a lifetime resident of Darby told him of an
article from when zoning was first started, The idea was to beautify
Darby and help growth. He feels that banby is dying and zoning is killing
it. People seem to care the most only when the problem is next door to
them: The town as a whole needs input from its residents to help growth.
