HomeMy WebLinkAboutBudget Meeting Minutes 2017-10-12 BUDGET COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE CITY OF ITHACA, NEW YORK Budget Meeting #1 6:00 p.m. 10/12/2017 PRESENT Alderperson Mohlenhoff – Chair Alderpersons (9): Brock, Fleming, Gearhart, Kerslick, Decatur, McGonigal, Murtagh, Nguyen, Smith Mayor Myrick OTHERS PRESENT Chief of Staff – Cogan Controller – Thayer Deputy Controller – Andrew Acting Police Chief – Tyler Deputy Police Chief – Monticello IPD Financial Management Assistant – Ramirez Fire Chief – Parsons Motion to Approve the Mayor’s Budget Alderperson Mohlenhoff called for a motion to approve the Mayor’s budget. She explained that this will allow Common Council to discuss and amend the budget over the next several budget meetings. A motion to approve the Mayor’s budget was made by Alderperson Smith, seconded by Alderperson McGonigal. Common Council asked several questions about the budget and the City’s finances, which were answered by the Mayor and City staff. Several items were added by Common Council members to the list of possible future budget amendments. Chief of Staff Cogan added the list of possible amendments to a spreadsheet showing the fiscal impact were the changes to be incorporated into the budget. Items can be added by any Council member at any time, with no discussion or motion required. At the end of the process, items from the list will have to be moved and seconded in order to be discussed and voted on by Common Council. Budget Discussions There was a discussion with the Police Department. Council asked for information about overtime in the Police department, which information shall be compiled and sent by Ms. Ramirez. There was a discussion with the Fire Department. Council asked for information about the fire vehicles’ replacement schedule, which information shall be sent by Chief Parsons. Budget Review Meeting 10/12/17 Page 2 Meeting Wrap-up A motion to lay on the table the motion to approve the budget was made by Alderperson Kerslick, Seconded by Alderperson Smith. A vote on the motion resulted as follows: Passed unanimously (10-0). Next Meeting Date October 16, 2017 Adjournment With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:18 p.m.
