'DEWITT FOUNTAIN: Comm. Leary reporte.d,that,,he was pent abed that vandalism of the flowers..
and shrubs and the fountain at DeWitt` Park,°:was continuing. He asked the news media. to 34
publicize it in hopes that the public would become involved and report: -'any' vandalism' that
;they saw occur over there. If the public did not want this type of beautification for the
City, he felt the City should do away with it and save the taxpayers money. for repairs and
replacements.

but it was expected in a few days. He reported•that.,no recommendation would be given
until the Council had an opportunity to study means of financing this. !/yam'
INLET PARK: The Superintendent reported the architects h'ad 'indicated .there .ws no. striic-,;
"tural reason' why work cannot begin on the construction, of the.. swimming pool' arid,,skating
rink; facility planned for Inlet Park. They suggestedthat bids be taken on the third of
September which would permit a start of construction about September.11 and -allow for' the
pouring' of the pool shell and backfilling by the first part of December. If this schedule
were followed, there is a possibility that swimming would be available in the 1971 season.
Architects estimates show that the total estimated cost of construction and equipping'the
poO and skating rink to be approximately 1.1 million dollars without allowing for site °4 5
workand utilities which would not be a part of the general contract. This figure alsod
does not include any of the preparatory work which has, been done`;to date nor the architec-: ,
tural and engineering fees. A conservative estimate:.:. of the remaining costs for the com
pletion of the site work and utilities for the north portion including tWparking 'lot.:;;w
at the swimming pool would be approximately .4 million dollars. At this time; the Bute u
,
of Outdoor Recreation has not authorized the construction of the skating rinkand there
;is no indication when such approval will be forthcoming. Even if the .BOR has "authorized
the combining of stages 2 and 3 (swimming pool and skating.rink) tkiOinancing availabl•

for the project is approximately 1 million dollars. There is presenit1y'4no proposal before
the City to supply the additional .5 million dollars required to comp'lete;. Z project
Consequently, he did not recommend advertising for bids at this timed
INLET PARK POOL: The Supt. reported receipt of a letter frau Egrie.r Associates with_respect
to the swimming pool at Inlet Park. The letter enclosed'a copy`.:, of the State Department.
of Health's approval of the pool facility as designed. It als:ore.terated that there are
4111'no technical reasons for the project not to proceed as designed`even though there is no
chance of completing the pool tank in 1970. It would still be possible' to bid the project,
;install the piling, and then proceed with the pool tank in the Spring. The letter further.
stated that when the City had determined its course of action bidding•documents could be
prepared, printed, and bound in approximately f re ays . The_ Super b.tendent did not rec-
ommend any action by the Board at this time.
