HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017 CPB Annual ReportCommunity Police Board 2017 Annual Report  Three members of the Board participated on the search committee to recommend candidates to the Mayor for the position of Chief of Police.  Members of the Ithaca Youth Council presented the results of their survey of high school students concerning opinions and attitudes about policing and student interactions with the IPD.  Officers from the IPD made a presentation concerning the proposed LEAD Program. The CPB expressed support for actualization of this program.  Students from IHS continued to visit, observe, and offer comments at our monthly meetings.  Councilwoman Cynthia Brock attended two meetings to discuss continuing safety issues at the West Village Apartments.  Councilman Graham Kerslick continued to act as Council liaison throughout the year. Deputy Chief Monticello and acting Deputy Chief Jake Young attended as representatives from the IPD. Administrative support was provided by City Clerk Julie Holcomb after the retirement of Cindy Day.  Thirteen letters of compliment for actions by IPD officers were received by the Board . These letters spoke to the dedication to professionalism and compassion of IPD officers.  The Board received and reviewed four complaints during the year. The officers and supervisors of the IPD were cooperative in all cases. The Board especially appreciates the assistance of Deputy Chief Monticello and acting Deputy Chief Young.  Two of these complaints resulted in recommending changes to IPD procedures related to dissemination of information.  The Board currently has two adult vacancies and another for the youth commissioner position. Filling these vacancies is a priority for the Board as we must have five members present to reach the quorum necessary for decision making. Dated: 02-28-18 Approved by the CPB on 02-28-18
