THE TOWN OF DANBY PLANNING BOARD MINUTES - - JUNE 20 , 1979
The regular meeting of the Town of Danby Planning Board was
h eld at the Danby Town Hall , at 8 : 00 P . M . , June 20 , 1979 .
The major part of the meeting was a public information meeting
on Sections 3 , 5 and 6 of the proposed revised Zoning Ordinance .
P lanning Board Members present : Ernest Cole , Chairman ;
Donald Graham ; Gary Leonhardt ; Wayne Rial
P lanning Board Members absent : Irene Cortright ; Clifford
Hill ; Alberta Wilbur
O thers present : Gary Evans , County Planning Office , Van .
Billings , Town Zoning Officer , and about 65 - 70 other
interested residents of the Town of Danby
Due to the absence of the secretary of the Planning Board ,
approval of the minutes of the last meeting was deferred and
G ary Leonhardt was appointed secretary pro - tem .
Chairman Cole opened the meeting by explaining that this
was an informational meeting on the proposed revisions to
the Zoning Ordinance , not a public hearing as noted in the
local press . We hoped to confine our discussion to the three
sections which were summarized in the June issue of the
D anby Area News . The meeting was then opened to the Privilege
o f the Floor .
P rivilege of the Floor :
Moses Peter- indicated that he understood that the proposed
✓ evision of the Zoning Ordinance was more restrictive and
complicated than the present Ordinance . He further indicated
that he thought it had been made clear that Danby residents
d id not want a more complicated and restrictive ordinance on
zoning .
Considerable discussion ensued concerning definitions , and
at one point the meeting , Gary Evans started to read the
d efinitions included in Sections 300 - 307 of the proposed
✓ evision . A stumbling block occurred with the term ,
" easement " , and further reading of definitions was halted .
Several times during the Privilege of the Floor , the
suggestion was made that copies of the full proposed revision
o f the Zoning Ordinance should be made available to the
✓ esidents of the Town without charge , so that they could
study it , with the further suggestion that the meeting be
adjourned until same could be accomplished .
Chairman Cole pointed out that the Town Board had passed
some amendments to the present Zoning Ordinance , such as
SEQR and Wetlands , to prevent State control of matters that
should be under local control .
George Clarkson reiterated the point that the residents
don ' t have the information and should have free copies of the
proposed revision .

ADDENDUM TO MINUTES OF MEETING OF THE PLANNING BOARD OF
THE TOWN OF DANBY , JUNE 20 , 19 7 9. :
Subsequent to the meeting of June 20 , 1979 and after
consultation with Supervisor Francis Wright ; ' by Chairman
Cole and Member Leonhardt , it was decided to postpone
the public informational meeting originally scheduled for
the West Danby Fire Hall at 8 p . m . , Wednesday , July 18 ,
1979 . In place of the summary of Articles4 , 8 and 9 ,
a statement by Chairman Cole was included with. the Danby
Area News for July , explaining the postponement . A
copy of that statement is appended to these ninutes .

After consideration of the comments of some members of
the Danby community at the public informational meeting on
certain sections of the proposed revision of the Zoning
Ordinance of the Town of Danby held by the Town Planning
Board last Wednesday evening , June 20 , 1979 , and after
consultation with Supervisor Francis Wright and members of
the Town Board , the Planning Board has decided to suspend
further informational meetings temporarily , pending further
review of the proposed revision by the Planning Board .
Therefore , the public informational meeting noted in the
Ithaca Journal as scheduled for Wednesday , July 18 , 1979 at
the West Danby Fire Hall has been cancelled until further
notice .
The Planning Board will hold its regular meeting at
the Danby Town Hall at 8 p . m . , Wednesday , July 18 , 1979 .
In its further review and consideration of the proposed
✓ evision of the Town ' s Zoning Ordinance , the Planning Board
will welcome the comments and suggestions of the residents
o f Danby , with a view to arriving at a proposed ordinance
which wi ] laccomplish the wishes and desires of the people of
Danby .
