a. Board and Committee Restructuring Meeting – May 2nd at 6:30 p.m., 2nd Floor
Conference Room, City Hall
Meeting is open to the public. Caleb and Rob will attend and possibly Carol and John. The
restructuring committee has already changed their proposal given feedback from public and
committee members. Rob gives us some updates including that the commissions may have
9 members instead of 7.
3. Public Comment – 3 minutes per person
No visitors. No public comment.
4. Approval of Minutes – February 2017; March 2017
No quorum so we did not vote.
5. INHS Hoard Award
Carol has contacted them to request plaques for each one of us. She will contact them to see if we
(Carol+1, Sam, Norma, Caleb, JoAnn+1 can sit together.) JoAnn will receive a framed award that
will hang in City Hall.
6. Welcoming Peace Sculpture
Many PAC members expressed concern over email on this topic and these concerns were reiterated
at our meeting. John asked to what degree we would be asked to fundraise. Caleb expressed that
calling for donations for this very expensive project would be competing with other potential local
art projects. Norma notes that the artists aren't regional and this would be a lot of funding to go to
non-local artists. Caleb expresses that this piece does not represent peace in the way he'd like to
see it in a sculpture - that he would want input from middle easterners and others that our
government is waging war against.
7. Updates
a. Rainwater Art
Norma, Caleb, and Sam will soon walk around taking pics of placement of stencils at
approved locations. Someone needs to purchase of paint. GIAC is interested in helping
paint. We need to plan who will paint and install each and also plan dates for installation
to submit for permissions. We briefly discuss budget and reimbursements for generator
membership, materials, prep and installation. Caleb is paying $35/month for Ithaca
Generator membership and requests reimbursement for April and May.
b. Electrical Box Murals
Common Council is voting on the first Wednesday. We look at Calendars and propose
May 16 or 23 at 5pm as possible dates for the celebration and info session with the
Approved – 10/26/17
artists. As soon as we pick a date, Caleb will send an invitation to the artists. This needs
to happen as soon as possible. It would be great if PAC members and liaisons would each
bring drink/finger food to share. (i. Painting Instructions - Norma has updated the
instructions. We make a minor edit of requesting artists tape over hinges.)
c. Margaret Reed
Caleb has yet to contact Margaret and will immediately.
d. Muslim Culture Mural
Mural is going amazing well with lots of community input. PAC is invited to participate.
7. CAP Grant
The panel met. An image of an old Brooklyn Diner has been chosen for a location in Dryden. The
proposal for Dryden Garage was good and committee wants to find a better location. Ithaca Youth
Bureau would like a mural with kids and bikes and things that reflect what happens inside the
building.
8. Next Meeting – May 25, 2017 at 12-1:30pm
