June 27th twenty nine visited Genesee County Village and Museum at Mumford. We saw a collection of more than fifty homes, shops and farm buildings which had been moved to the Museum site, restored and authentically furnished with researched antiques. It was like stepping back into the 19th century. We stopped at Theodora restaurant and ate dinner overlooking Canandaigua Lake. August 3rd, forty four went to Springside Inn at Auburn to the dinner and Broadside play "Chicago". This was a little different. The Newharts hosted our August meeting at their "Lodge" where around sixty folks enjoyed the bountiful foodand visited with new and old friends. August 23rd, nineteen boarded two Gadabout buses for Misty Meadows Hog Farm in Seneca County. After viewing pigs from newborn sizes to slaughter weight, we moved to a gift shop and then the dining hall, where the menu featured barbequed pork, porkburgers, ham, and other dishes. This is a good place to take children to visit. We also stopped at two wineries • where we learned the wine making process from grape to bottle. There was also a display of Duck Stamp history, and carved wooden ducks made by local people. These trips were planned by Edith Stoughton and Millicent Carpenter. We're ready for suggestions for next year's trips. Election of officers was held at our June meeting with the following persons elected: First President Millicent Carpenter Second President Charles Sheffield First Secretary Pine Linton (273-1380) Second Secretary Helena Schaber (273-0636) Treasurer Frances LaBombard A slide collection is being compiled with the aid of the DeWitt , Historical Society, including pictures of old houses, buildings, people and events from the past. If anyone has any pictures we can borrow to copy, please contact Jack Hubbell for information. If.you or your spouse are over 55 years old, you're welcome to tfring a dish to pass and table service, and join in the food, fun and fellowship at the Enfield Grange every second Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. so come earlier and stay later for a good visit. Need a ride? Call one of our officers. Any person over 62 wishing to purchase a Discount Book containing discounts given to seniors by various merchants in Tompkins County please contact our secretaries for information. A beautiful "Tulip Quilt" is ready to be won by someone at the Enfield Festival Days. A big, special thanks goes to a group of wadies for the hours of work spent on this quilt. The Town Board is in the process of passing a local Law No.1 (1984). The purpose of this local law is to establish and provide for the administration and enforcement procedure in the Town of Enfield, applicable to the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code. What this means is that no person, firm, corporation or association shall commence the erection, construction, enlargement, major alteration, improvement, removal or demolition of any building or structure without having obtained a Building Permit. Farm Buildings are exempt. Residences on farms are not. Building Permits and Applications can be obtained at the Town Clerk's Office during regular business hours. On June 1, 1984 the Town Board appointed Ed Hughes of Newfield as the Building and Fire Code Inspector. He can be reached at (607) 564-7416. In regard to the Fire Codes, the emphasis is placed on PLACES OF PUBLIC ASSEMBLY (Churches, Grange Hall, Town Hall, Stores,Restaurants and • Taverns); also Multiple Residences and Apartment Complexes. These have to be in compliance with the New York State Fire Code by 1 January 1985. If anyone has any questions on this new law, I urge you to contact the Building and Fire Code Inspector. Roger Hubbell Supervisor EDITORIAL Every so often a few reigstered voters attempt (without success) to get our Town Board to pass some form of dog control legislation.
