RE: Reminder Updated COVID-19 Vaccine and Annual Flu Shot Available for all Residents 6
Months and Older, Immunizations Ambassadors Available to Discuss Concerns and Provide
Information
DATE: 11/29/2023
Cortland County Health Department recommends that all Cortland County residents age 6 months
and older receive the 2023-2024 updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect themselves against potentially
serious outcomes of COVID-19 illness, including hospitalization and death. Flu vaccines for the 2023-
2024 flu season are also readily available and recommended for all individuals age 6 months and
older to protect against serious outcomes from seasonal flu. Vaccine appointments can be made
through healthcare providers, pharmacies, or on this website.
Residents should know:
The benefits of getting the updated COVID-19 and seasonal Flu vaccines outweigh any risks,
for all age groups, including younger individuals.
Vaccines not only protects against hospitalization and death, but also reduce the chances of
suffering the effects of long COVID.
You can get the updated COVID-19 vaccine and seasonal Flu vaccine at the same time.
The updated COVID-19 vaccines are expected to provide good protection against COVID-19
for the currently circulating variants.
Dr. Matthew Noble, a Family Practice Physician in Cortland, and Cortland County Board of Health
member, states: “I strongly recommend the updated COVID-19 vaccine in an effort to prevent
contracting and transmitting the virus, especially for people that are older or have chronic illnesses
such as diabetes, COPD, asthma, and heart disease.”
Cortland County Immunization Ambassadors are available to discuss immunizations,
including their personal experience with the COVID-19 vaccine, for community members
interested. They can provide information if requested and offer non-judgmental discussions
related to vaccine concerns. Community members can contact Alanna Powell at
apowell@cortland-co.org to be connected to an ambassador. You can also visit ambassadors
throughout the month of December in various community locations. Follow us on Facebook
for updates on immunization ambassador events here.
