CORTLANDVILLE — More
than $84,000 from the Community
Development Block Grants program
--may be-used-to-buy-disabled-acces-
sible playground equipment for the
Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex.
"The state is taking all access
money across the state back," said
Town Supervisor Richard Tupper on
Wednesday."We have to spend it of
send it back."
Tupper said the -town .board
thought it could use the remaining
$84,292 toward the sports complex.
"They (the state) told us no," he
said.
However; the state did approve
the use of the money toward play-
ground equipment that kids with
disabilities could use. "We are just
buying the equipment and will build
ourselves,"Tupper said.
There are plans to get the commu-
nity together and put the equipment
together. Tupper said the town still
needs to level the area and order the
equipment before they make an an-
nouncement for volunteers.
,The town board approved the.use
of the money Wednesday night.
The playground will be near the
baseball fields. Tupper did not have

ects, of'Lansing, to purchase the
:quipment.
"This(the use of money)is pretty
ig,"Tupper said. "We didn't think
ley (the state) would allow us to
se it toward the park."
-Aaron Baier, the systems advo-
icy coordinator for Access to In-
Tendence of Cortland County,
as thrilled this morning to hear

While the city of Cortland j
opened an inclusive playgrou
at Suggett Park, which allo
kids with disabilities to p]
alongside those without disabi

playground at Gutchess will
just as inclusive.
"This would be'a tremendo
boon for the community,"
said.
