Building, Willow Ave., City of Ithaca Minutes Commissioners Present: Ellen Leventry Martha Gioumousis Margaret Hobbie Dan Krall Staff Present: Jeanne Grace, City Forester Jim D’Alterio, Cass Park Kevin Vorstadt, Asst. City Forester Old Business (from Minutes) 1. Location and format of “free play” area suggested for Baker Park. Sponsor Rusty Keeler was unable to attend meeting, but will join discussion at July meeting. Questions of how will people understand use and what can be experienced by users. Dan Krall suggested that southeast corner of Wood St. Park may be a better location. The site is near an existing play area and structure and not adjacent a busy street as it would be in Baker Park. Questions of the park structure, usage and location will be discussed with Rusty at the July meeting. 2. Dan Krall noted that he was flattered but did not want the triangle park, which he manages to be named in his honor. Presently the neighbors and most users refer to it at the Titus Triangle Park. This also has the advantage of recognizing users from both sides of the creek. This name was accepted and will be the official name of the park. 3. Park commissioners are generally opposed to the restructuring of city commissions as has been proposed by the city government. Commissioners present thanked Ellen for her continued advocacy of this position and agreed to her presenting a letter from the Commission stating our opposition. (Roberta will be contacted prior to issuing the letter.) Following these discussions the minutes were approved (with the correction of spelling of Jim D’Alterio’s name). Moved by Krall, seconded by Hobbie. Cass Park Names Jeanne Grace reported that the BPW accepted the names of the roadways in Cass Park as proposed by the Commission. These will now be known as Runway Lane, Cove Lane and Turtle Lane.
