Ithaca, New York 14850 607 277 3077 17 July 1979 Robert John O'Brien, R.A. David H.Taube, R.A. Ithaca Housing Authority 800 South Plain Street Ithaca, NY 14850 Attention: Mary Louise Battisti Executive Director Reference: Alterations to Titus Towers Dear Ms. Battisti : • We have reviewed the bids received Tuesday 10 July for the above work, and make the following recommendations: 1 . Elevator Work The low bid, by Haughton Elevator, the original installer, is consistant with our estimates for the work, and should be accepted. The prices for Alternate No. 1 , deleting the firemen's emergency service, indicate that both Haughton and Midstate priced the exhaust fans and electric eyes at about $5000, but that Haughton, being familiar with this installation, priced the emergency service at $15,000 less than Midstate. The Alternate should not be accepted. 2. Fire Alarm Madison Electric's low bid of $36,630 is consistant with our estimates and should be accepted. Alternate No. 1 , which involves reusing certain existing components, would raise the price by 10%, and should therefore not be accepted. 3. Parking The only bid, submitted by Ottenschot, is considerably higher than our most recent estimate. Because of the seasonal nature of paving, however, a further delay for rebidding might put off construction until next spring, with an increased cost due to inflation. We therefore recommend that this bid be accepted if the funds are available. 4. Hardware The bid by Kelley is lower than our estimate and should be accepted. Ithaca Housing Authority Mary Louise Battisti Executive Director 17 July 1979 Page 2 To summarize, we recommend the following Contracts be approved by the Board: 1 . Haughton Elevator, $15,497.00 for elevator work 2. Madison Electric, $36,630.00 for fire alarm work 3. Ottenschot Co. , $11 ,440.00 for parking lot work 4. Kelley Bros. , $ 2,770.00 for hardware work Total project cost: $66,337.00 Sincerely, 0 - Ot),f4 01- Robert John O'Brien • ROB:jsc O'Brien and Taube Architects 106 East Court Street Ithaca, New York 14850 607 277 3077 Robert John O'Brien, R.A. 17 July 1979 David H.Taube, R.A. There are ten senior citizens who would be interested in using the course. They would be covered. by the Tompkins County Senior Citizens' Council insurance while playing on the course. They realize that they will not be able to park at Titus and are willing to park elsewhere. These individuals would be willing to pay a $.50 green fee each time they play at the course. Is there any possibility the course could be maintained by your present maintenance man with the $.50 green fee paid each time they play as reimbursement? The group feels the course would not have to be maintained at the professional level it was in the past. We feel that were the course to be reactivated, many Titus residents would use and enjoy it.
