Present: Nina Bassuk, Jeanne Grace, Beverly Hillman, Pamela Markham, Monika Roth, Debra Statton,
Kevin Vorstadt, Keith Vanderhye
Forester’s report: Plantings are all done, planted approximately 90 trees, mostly replacements,
including a line along the Waterfront Trail to separate it from the Golf Course.
Stephen Smith, our liaison to Common Council, can never come to our meetings. He works at the Hotel
School during the day when our meeting occurs, has no car, etc. Let’s ask for a different liaison. Ask
Cynthia Brock if she’d come back with us‐‐‐we could change our meeting to 3rd Wednesday.
Re our changes to City ordinance, Jeanne will remind Seph again; she’ll email and ask if the window of
opportunity for getting it on the agenda of Planning and Economic Development Committee will open
up soon. (Jeanne passes out copies of the ordinance with changes highlighted to us.)
Move for consolidation of committees: Svante Myrick and Deb Mohlenhoff are the impetus behind this.
A committee composed of 2 staff, 2 reps from Council, and 2 committee members will decide about
consolidation. Jeanne offered to Deb to be on the committee but Deb never answered.
Commons update: a few elms and a few honey locust are dead. There’s a one‐year warranty. Seems
like JoAnn is heading up replacement.
Update on tree replacement at Staples parking lot: Jo Ann emailed the owner to remind him and he
answered he’d like to meet with Jeanne to see which trees really have to go. Jeanne will answer and
meet with him but thinks all will need replacement.
By Renovus building, Jeanne suggested elms but they want cherries, since it’s Cherry Street.
On Arbor Day, planted 4 tulip trees, 1 cucumber magnolia, 1 ‘Green Mountain’ maple. Beverly
documented the planting for Tree City certification.
Jeanne will follow up with Krin at the City Attorney’s office about the easement to see if there’s any
historical precedent for City treating private property trees as street trees.
On Court Street near GIAC 2 Liriodendron near the basketball court may need to be replaced.
Meet next month on Rte 13 for pruning. Nina will let us know where to meet.
