HomeMy WebLinkAboutMN-STAC-2016-07-13STAC Meeting July 13, 2016 Nina Bassuk, Laurene Gilbert, Jeanne Grace, Beverly Hillman, Pamela Markham, Debra Statton, Kevin Vorstadt Forester’s Report: crew has been watering once a week all those planted last year, and a bit less frequently the ones planted the year before. It takes 2 days to water last year’s trees. Add to door knocker that people should get in touch with Jeanne if want to be on reminder list or if having difficulty watering trees in front of their houses. Commons trees haven’t been replaced yet. 3 honey locust and 3 elms. Company will replace in fall, the warranty is through the end of July. Flexi pave at post office where 1-2 tree lilacs died , and across the street where a row of pears had 2 snapped off by someone, needs to be dealt with. Jeanne is trying to get the flexi pave people back to do a section instead of sidewalk at one place and at the base of trees on Cayuga between the Commons and Seneca; perhaps they can help with removing the flexi pave where trees died. Kevin is almost finished with the second management area. May go for the 3rd, time to do corrective pruning for trees planted 3 years ago, but Jeanne feels that might be too stressful since it’s so dry. Jeanne and Seph will talk Fri about moving our ordinance forward. Nina notes some coccinea’s, a couple of yellowwood, some chestnut oak, a pin oak , a couple of bi-color are chlorotic. Use eddha chelated iron, works very fast, takes one application per year. Chlorosis is due to high pH here. Jeanne was contacted by the Trust Company who took down all the ginkgos to build the new downtown bank. They want to donate trees to Ithaca. Greg Wilder at the bank is committed to working on planting of dawn redwoods in the fall. Do we want to put columnar ginkgos there instead of dawn redwoods. Right across the street are regal prince oaks, a hybrid of English cross swamp white oak, which are also columnar. Move the meeting to the 3rd Monday at 4Pm? Skip Aug, next meeting Monday Sept 19 4pm Coop Ext. Minutes respectfully submitted by Debra Statton
