I. Stewart Park
1. Rehab Projects: $1,500,000.00
• Dance Pavilion
• Picnic Pavilion
• Tea Pavilion
• Cascadilla Boat House and Duck Pond
2. New Construction: $ 250,000.00
• Pedestrian Plaza
• Performance Pier
Look for other funding and use the 1.5 million as a match.
3. Shoreline Stabilization $ 50,000.00
4. Dredging Study to determine feasibility of swimming $ 50,000.00
5. Landscaping/Furnishings/Improvements $ 100,000.00
6. Reserve Fund $ 50,000.00
II. Youth Bureau
1. Sand Volleyball Courts $ 10,000.00
2. Storage Facility and Restrooms $ 75,000.00
III. Cass Park
1. Master Plan $ 50,000.00
2. Major Improvements to Rink $ 750,000.00
in reserve account to replace slab and chillers when needed
3. Replace Playground Equipment $ 50,000.00
4. Enhance/Improve Existing Athletic Fields $ 250,000.00
Consider as possible source of revenue. Improved fields may allow city to
increase fees.
5. Reconfigure Parking on Runway $ 75,000.00
6. New Basketball Courts (2 courts, 6 hoops) $ 25,000.00
on Existing(upgraded portion of) Runway
IV. Design and Construction of Cayuga Inlet Trail $ 1,000,000.00
to include improvements to the existing trail: increase width to 12', repave,
redesign,fitness trail rehab
V. Improvements to Ithaca Falls $ 200,000.00
VI. Improvements to Southwest Area Substitute Park $ 500,000.00
VII. Reserve money for a Landscape Improvement Fund $ 500,000.00
for all parks to include:
• Park Signage
• Landscaping
• Benches
• Lighting
• Play Equipment
• Planting
VIII. Discrete Projects
1. Improvements to Planet Monuments in City Parks
(Plazas, Landscaping, etc.) $ 5,000.00
2. Additional Basketball Courts $ 25,000.00
3. Additional Playgrounds
4. Construction of Park at Titus Triangle $ 100,000.00
5. Improvements to Brindley Park &Point Look Out $ 250,000.00
6. Auburn Park Playground Replacement $ 50,000.00
7. Completion of Neptune Park $ 50,000.00
8. Rehabilitation of City Cemetery $ 250,000.00
Non Park Projects that may be worthy of consideration. (Other sources of funding
may be available for these.)
1. Construction of Six Mile Creek Trail from City Watershed on South Hill to
Meadow Street along North and/or South Titus Avenues
2. Purchase of additional key parcels in the Six Mile Creek Watershed Area and
along other area waterways
Projects that may be eligible for other types of funding (ISTEA, TIP, etc).
1. Underground Electric and New Lighting at Stewart Park(request funding
from NYSEG)
2. Cascadilla Community Boathouse(seek private and grant funding sources)

RE: Proposed capital expenditures for City of Ithaca natural areas
Enclosed please find a proposed"Priority List of Capital Expenditures for Natural Areas,"endorsed
unanimously by the City of Ithaca Natural Areas Commicsion at its most recent meeting on 5/10/99.
The five items which the Commission recommends be included in a spending plan for the year 2000 are
marked with an asterisk.

It is our understanding that the Superintendent and the Board of Public Works will soon be involved in
discussion of capital project for the coming year. A representative from the Commission would be glad to
meet with you to explain these recommendations in more detail. City Forester Andy Hillman and planner
Doug Foster,who are active,ex officio members of the Commission,and Council member Pat Vaughan are
also knowledgable about this list.
In the event that there are monies from the sale of part or all of the current Southwest Park,the Commission
asks that the proposed expenditures on this list be considered when the distribution of those monies is
determined.

1. Acquire high&medium priority parcels in watershed area 225,000
(supplements Capital Project account#292)
2. Create access from downtown
a. Acquire easements through Wilcox Press,other properties 0-20,000*
b. Develop,improve path to Van Natta's Dam area;signs 10,000
c. Construct 2-3 pedestrian bridges across creek 100,000
3. Address erosion,trampling problems along Wildflower Trail 2,000*
4. Repair steps leading down to creek from Columbia/Giles Streets 10,000*
5. Improve selected trails on south side of creek 5,000
6. Construct additional fencing&bicycle bathers along S.Hill
Recreation Way(where it abuts City property) 5,000*
7. Regrade driveway to Giles Street parking area 5-10,000
Ithaca Falls

Marin County Dog
Parks
A Place to A Dog Park is a place where dogs can socialize and run
off-leash in a safe, secure environment. In Marin County, more
R i-U i=N than 70,000 canines vie for a piece of the park pie and dog parks
are becoming an increasingly popular opportunity for people and
dogs to relax, exercise and socialize.
Doa Parks
There is no doubt that the dog owners deserve a piece of the

soccer and tennis enthusiasts. The recognized use of city and

CANINE COMMONS -Larkspur
Located within Larkspur's Piper Park,the Canine
Commons was Marin's original dog park opening
its gates in 1989..Open 365 days a year, a new
bench and bulletin board cover are available
thanks to the generosity of park user Sandra
Wornum.
REMINGTON PARK- Sausalito
Opening in 1991,Remington Park has become one
of Marin's premier pooch places. Visit the

BAYFRONT PARK- Mill Valley
Dog Park and Bayfront's 2-acre dog park is entering the final
Dog Park
Groups stages of construction. Drains have been installed
and grading has been completed. Following the
connection of a new irrigation system and final
seeding,Marin dogs will have an even better
reason to trek to Mill Valley.

FIELD OF DOGS - San Rafael
The Field of Dogs officially opened on July 11,
1998. It is located at the Marin County Civic
Center in San Rafael. Directions: from Highway
101,take the N.San Pedro Road exit east to Civic
Center Drive (1st light.) Turn left and the park will
be on your right just past the Post Office and
firehouse. Volunteers are always needed for
fundraising and event planning activities. We're
planning a fund-raising dinner on May 1, 1999 in
San Rafael. For further information, call Mario

McDOG is pleased to announce that membership
has grown, and reminds dogs to encourage their
owners to attend McDog's monthly meeting,held
every 3rd Thursday of the month at the Contempo
Marin Community Clubhouse. Contact: Terry

Larkspur Park& Recreation Department operates
Canine Commons in Piper Park and they are
seeking a new event coordinator and contact

Park People and Dogs is responsible for the Dog

D.O.G.B.O.N.E.,The Dog Owners Group
Bettering Our Novato Environment is seeking
donations to help cover the costs of fencing and
irrigating a 1 acre dog-specific turf in Novato.
Final permit approval awaits review and
development could begin as early as Fall '97.

Back to Table D.O.G., is associated with Remington Park in
of Contents Sausalito. Recently,47 D.O.G. members pitched in
to assist with park maintenance and
improvements. To improve drainage between the
water faucets and waste disposal areas,the

volunteer crew dug a new ditch and spread fresh
gravel. In addition,vegetation was trimmed and
pruned and the Park's benches were repainted.

Friends of San Anselmo Dogs encourage dog
owners to lobby on behalf of a new dog park being
considered for Red Hill Park. They welcome
volunteers and financial support. Annual dues for
Friends of San Anselmo Dogs members are only
$15, and will help offset park maintenance and
