Osborn Mr. Harry Sutherland Mr. Merrill Shipherd Mr. Edward Pierce Mrs . Esther Freeman Mrs . Robert Smock Mr. Kenneth Flynn Reverend Frank Sperduto Mr. Samuel Woodside Mr. Judson W. Hill The meeting was called to order by Chairman Osborn at 4:10 P.M. Mr. Woodside moved the minutes of the previous meeting be approved,. Seconded by Mr. Sutherland. Carried. A letter from Mrs . Madeline Hill was read thanking the Advisory Council for the wedding gift presented to Mr. Hill at the last meeting. Director's Roport - On the first Saturday of the Golf Clinic there were 123 registered. Classes will run for 6 weeks starting Saturday, May 21, 1955 and continuing through June 18 . There will be another 6 weeks clinic starting July 5 and ending August 12 in connection with the Summer Music Day Camp. Children' s Matinee - Matinee Series Budget and' Financial Procedures Committee met with the Youth Bureau Director and worked out a policy to be suggested at the next Matinee Series General Staff meeting. The committee decided that closer cooperation with the Youth Bureau is necessary for the successful operation of the program. Summer Music Camp - Program is being drawn up at this time with the help of Miss Finch and Mr. Bredbenner. It was suggested that the name of the camp carry the title of "Youth Bureau" : Mr. Woodside gave a report on the Fourth of July program. Ho said the contracts for the fireworks and the insurance had been signed and written approval has been received from Cornell to use Schoellkopf Field on July 2 or 3. Mrs . Osborn appointed Mrs . Smock as Chairman of next year' s Annual Meeting committee. Teen Center - Mr. Flynn, Chairman Of the committee investigating the need for a Youth Center gave a progress report . He said there is. more work to be done by this committee . Considerable discussion took place concerning the facts that had been brought to light to date . Many seem to point toward neighborhood centers . It was agreed the Youth Bureau should take leadership in investigating, planning and preparing in this area. This Committee will make their final report and recommendations at the June meeting, (The Director explained that all summer employees must be approved by the Municipal Civil Service Commission and the Mayor must approve appointments . Mr. Hill stated he wanted Advisory Council approval of his selection for summer employees . Reverend Sperduto made a motion that we approve John Graves as Youth Band Director, Herb Broadwell as Tennis Director and Mr, Lewis Adesso as Golf Director for this summer. Seconded by Mr. Woodside. Carried. f ik • • • ti- After some discussion Mr. Woodside made the motion that Mr. Hill proceed to get the best staff he can find for the other positions and the Advisory Council approve them. Mr. Pierce seconded the motion. Carried. It was the general consensus of opinion that Advisory Council members would like to have the employees and volunteers working in the Youth Bureau programs come to Council meetings from time to time to make brief reports and let the Council members get better acquainted with them. Mr. Hill brought up the subject of the program. "Spotlight on Volunteers" . He asked for suggestions from the Advisory Council since our volunteer is to be spotlighted July 15. After a good deal of discussion Mr. Woodside moved that we either submit a long list of all of our volunteers or none at all. Mrs. Freeman seconded. Carried. Mrs .
