CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION

Commissioner Bantuvanis called the meeting to order at 11:03 a.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Commissioner Perko made a motion to approve the minutes of the October 17,
1994 meeting. Seconded by Commissioner Bantuvanis. Motion carried 2-0,
NEW BUSINESS
NEW POSITION DUTIES STATEMENT: PLANNING DEPARTMENT - SENIOR TYPIST
The Commission reviewed a New Position Duties Statement from the Planning
Department. Commissioner Perko made a motion to classify the position as
Senior Typist. Seconded by Commissioner Bantuvanis. Motion carried 2-0.
AMENDMENT TO RECREATION SUPERVISOR JOB DESCRIPTION
Senior Stenographer Fiorille stated that at the request of the Youth Bureau
Director, Personnel Administrator Saul is recommending that the Commission
add a Special Requirement to the Recreation Supervisor job description which
reads as follows:
"For Recreation Supervisor positions which have responsibility for the
oversight or operation of municipal swimming pools, the following
requirements apply:
A. Candidates must possess the following certificates at the time of
appointment and must maintain the certificates for the duration of
employment:
1. American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certificate;
2. American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certificate;
3. American Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety or Standard First
Aid certificate;
4. American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certificate.
Note: For all of the above certificates, an equivalent certificate
accepted by the New York State Department of Health will be accepted in
place of the American Red Cross certificate. Additionally, higher level
certifications may be substituted for the required lower-level
certifications.

B. Candidates must be certified as Lifeguard Training Instructors at the
time of appointment and must maintain certification for the duration of
employment."
Commissioner Perko made a motion to revise the Recreation Supervisor job
description as stated above. Seconded by Commissioner Bantuvanis. Motion
carried 2-0.
NEW POSITION DUTIES STATEMENT AND ADOPTION OF JOB SPECIFICATION FOR
FACILITIES AND PROJECT COORDINATOR
The Commission reviewed and discussed a New Position Duties Statement
submitted by the Ithaca City School District and the proposed job description
for Facilities and Project Coordinator.
Commissioner Bantuvanis made a motion to classify the position as Facilities
and Project Coordinator and to adopt the job description as proposed.
Seconded by Commissioner Perko. Motion carried 2-0.
CONTINUING BUSINESS
Commissioner Bantuvanis made a motion to go into Executive Session to discuss
civil service examination matters. Seconded by Commissioner Perko. Motion
carried 2-0. During Executive Session, the Commission took the following
actions.
