CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
June 14, 1994

Commissioner Bantuvanis called the meeting to order at 11:03 a.m.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Personnel Administrator Saul announced that the New York State Civil Service
Commission approved the Commission's request to place the position of School
District Clerk in the Exempt Class.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Commissioner Perko made a motion to approve the minutes of the May 10, 1994
regular meeting and the May 18, 1994 special meeting. Seconded by
Commissioner Bantuvanis. Motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS
NEW POSITION DUTIES STATEMENT: ICSD - TYPIST
The Commission reviewed a New Position Duties Statement from the Ithaca City
School District. Commissioner Bantuvanis made a motion to classify the
position as Typist. Seconded by Commissioner Perko. Motion carried.
REVISION OF JOB DESCRIPTION FOR LIFEGUARD
The Commission reviewed and discussed a request from the Youth Bureau to
amend the Special Requirements on the Lifeguard job description by 'reducing
the minimum age from 18 to 17. The training and certification requirements
will remain the same.
The 18 year old minimum age requirement was instituted because the, NYS
Sanitary Code requires employees who supervise wading pools to be at least
18. However, the NYS Sanitary Code also waives the age requirement to allow
16 year olds and 17 year olds to supervise wading pools, if the teenager has
full certification and training as a Lifeguard.
Commissioner Perko made a motion to (educe the minimum age for the Lifeguard
title to age 17 as requested. Seconded by Commissioner Bantuvanis. Motion
carried.
NEW POSITION DUTIES STATEMENT: ICSD - SENIOR TYPIST
The Commission reviewed a New Position Duties Statement from the Ithaca City
School District. Commissioner Bantuvanis made a motion to classify the
position as Senior Typist. Seconded by Commissioner Perko. Motion carried.

CONTINUING BUSINESS
Commissioner Bantuvanis made a motion to go into Executive Session to discuss
civil service examination matters. Seconded by Commissioner Perko. After
Executive Session, the Commission took the following actions:

Commissioner Perko made a motion to establish the eligible lists listed below
for the time period indicated. Seconded by Commissioner Middleton. Motion
carried.
