REGULAR MEETING
CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
January 11, 1994
Present: Commissioner Bantuvanis, Commissioner Perko, Valerie Saul

Commissioner Bantuvanis called the meeting to order at 11:05 a.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Commissioner Perko made a motion to approve the minutes of the December 13,
1993 meeting. Seconded by Commissioner Bantuvanis. Motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS
NEW POSITION DUTIES STATEMENT: ITHACA FIRE DEPARTMENT - ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF
The Commission reviewed and discussed a New Position Duties Statement from
the Ithaca Fire Department. The Fire Chief is requesting permission to add
a sixth (6th) Assistant Fire Chief, to provide a smooth transition for an
upcoming retirement. When the current Assistant Fire Chief retires, his
former position will be eliminated and the Fire Department roster will be
reduced back to five (5) Assistant Fire Chiefs. Commissioner Perko made a
motion to classify the position as Assistant Fire Chief. Seconded by
Commissioner Bantuvanis. Motion carried.
NEW POSITION DUTIES STATEMENT: ITHACA POLICE DEPARTMENT - COMMUNITY SERVICE
OFFICER
The Commission reviewed and discussed a New Position Duties Statement from
the Ithaca Police Department. Commissioner Bantuvanis made a motion to
classify the position as Community Service Officer. Seconded by Commissioner
Perko. Motion carried.
CONTINUING BUSINESS
Commissioner Bantuvanis made a motion to go into Executive Session to discuss
Civil Service examination matters. Motion carried. After Executive Session,
the Commission took the following actions:

Commissioner Perko made a motion to approve the following Personnel
Transactions. Seconded by Commissioner Bantuvanis. Motion carried.

Commissioner Perko made a motion to approve the Rosters of Candidates for the
following Examinations. Seconded by Commissioner Bantuvanis. Motion
carried.

Commissioner Bantuvanis reported that the Commission had discussed a letter
from CSEA DPW. Unit President Dana Morgan regarding issues pertaining to the
Community Service Officer positions. Commissioner Bantuvanis will respond
to Mr. Morgan's letter on behalf of the Commission.
With no further business, Commissioner Bantuvanis adjourned the meeting at
11:35 a.m.
