Home My WebLink AboutMN-CIV-1990-10-15 REGULAR MEETING CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION OCTOBER 15, 1990 PRESENT: Commissioner Bantuvanis, Commissioner Middleton (arrived late) , Commissioner Perko, Valerie Saul (Personnel Administrator) , Lisa Patz (Personnel Associate) , Bonnie Fiorille (Senior Stenographer) The meeting was called to order by Commissioner Bantuvanis at 3 :50 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Perko made a motion to accept the minutes of the October 15, 1990 meeting. Seconded by Commissioner Bantuvanis. Motion carried. NEW BUSINESS NEW POSITION DUTIES STATEMENT - ITHACA CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT: TYPIST Personnel Associate Patz explained that the part-time Typist position was funded by the Ithaca City School District Board, and this this position will be at the Caroline School. Commissioner Bantuvanis made a motion to classify the part-time typist position at the Ithaca City School District. Seconded by Commissioner Perko. Motion carried. REVISION OF MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: RECREATION SUPERVISOR Personnel Administrator Saul explained that one of our Recreation Supervisors is responsible for overseeing the Arts Program at the Youth Bureau, and the current job description does not reflect this program area. The qualifications for the position do not allow individuals with appropriate background in theatrical or fine arts to compete for the position. Personnel Administrator Saul is requesting that the minimum qualifications of the job description be amended to include fine arts and theatre as qualifying areas. ' Commissioner Perko _}nade a motion to revise the minimum qualifications of the Recreations Supervisor job description to include fine arts and theatre as qualifying areas. Seconded by Commissioner Bantuvanis. Motion carried. NEW POSITIONS DUTIES STATEMENT: AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR Personnel Administrator Saul explained that an Automotive Mechanic Supervisor position in the Department of Public Works was funded in the 1990 budget by Common Council, and the Automotive Mechanic Supervisor is responsible for overseeing automotive mechanics. Commissioner Perko made a motion to classify a new Automotive Mechanic Supervisor position. Seconded by Commissioner Bantuvanis. Motion carried. Civil Service Commission Meeting October 15, 1990 Page 2 CONTINUING BUSINESS Commissioner Bantuvanis made a motion to go into Executive Session to discuss Civil Service examination matters. Motion carried. After Executive Session, the Commission took the following actions: ADDITION OF NAMES TO CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT Commissioner Middleton made a motion to add the following names to the respective Continuous Recruitment List. Firefighter #62-084 (2 years) Superintendent of Public Works #62-083 (1 year) POLICY REGARDING TYPING PERFORMANCE TEST - RE-TEST POLICY Personnel Associate Patz explained that the State is now providing us with three different typing performance tests, and she is requesting that we change the re-test policy to allow a candidate three chances to pass the typing performance test. v , 1 Civil Service Commission Meeting October 15, 1990 Page 6 Commissioner Perko made a motion to change the re-test policy for the examinations which require a typing performance test to allow a candidate three chances to pass the typing performance test. Seconded by Commissioner Middletown. Motion carried. OTHER BUSINESS It was agreed that the next Civil Service Commission meeting would be held on November 19, 1990.
