MAY 12 , 1971
Present : Smith , Weitzel , Cole , Kirk , Olson
Also present : Zoning Officer Roberts
Minutes of April meeting approved as read .
The members of the board paid a visit to the town barns
and found that the structure was basically sound with the
e xception of a large crack in one end wall and an apparent
seepage of water from under the back wall .
After much discussion , it was the consensus of the mem -
bers that regardless of the amount of money that might be
spent in updating the existing situation , it would not be
adequate for existing needs , let alone the future needs
based on physical property limitations .
The board was in favor of further investigation into
where some suitable land might be found for acquisition . The
amount of land was a question that the members seemed to
think would have to range in the neighborhood of 10 acres
if a town office building would be included as there would
be need of adequate parking also :plus room for future
e xpansion .
The site should be in the proximity of the center of
town preferably with an access other than the main road .
Suggestions were made that we look at the highway barns
o f some other towns to determine costs and problems that
they encountered and possibly find one that has an office
building in conjunction to see what their opinions are as
far as the feasibility or problems they might have come across .
If the cost would be too great for both at the same
time , perhaps we could at least make a provision in the
plans for the future .
On the matter of the Yurts in West Danby - the board. feels
that zoning was put in in Danby for a reason and that it
should be enforced to the best of the town ' s ability or
others could attempt bypassing the zoning regulations and
morally , if not legally , the town would be acting under
e xception .
Zoning Officer Roberts seemed to think , on his under -
standing of what these structures were , that in the future if
permits were requested for these structures that they would
o nly be issued. on a seasonal usage basis , if at all .
Meeting adjourned at 10P . M .

Richard Olson
