MINUTES
1. Additions/Deletions to Agenda: Add press release to announce vacancies on PAC. Megan
will disseminate once finalized.
2. Announcements: Caleb working on print map of public art in Ithaca. Map is in draft form
and Caleb will incorporate edits from Sally. He may get sponsors for the map. Question
about where map will be distributed? Suggestion to work with City GIS (Ruth) to finalize
digital map. Suggestion to get images of public art in Ithaca on Google.
3. Public Comment:
• Nagiane provided some background on the Muslim population in Ithaca and
expressed that a group has been formed that is interested in celebrating and
representing Muslims in Ithaca.
o The Multicultural Resource Center and GIAC are interested in supporting a
mural. The group would prefer the mural to be Downtown.
o It was suggested that any cultural restrictions to Muslim art be considered
(no people or animals depicted). Nagiane explained that the mural could be
textile art.
o There was also some general discussion about how to define quality of art.
o Possible locations include the Green St Garage.
o Nagiane listened to the discussion about the CAP funding and is interested in
soliciting proposals to include in the RFP.
4. Approval of Minutes: All outstanding minutes were approved with one edit to the
September minutes (the minutes that were approved at this meeting are not dated). We are
still missing March 25 (Norma?), July 22, and October 28 (Caleb).
5. CAP Mural Project:
• ~ $7000 for first year from private funder.
• Need to check with Robin on timeline for RFP and jurying
• Discussion of possible City walls:
o Columbia St. Bridge (retaining wall and columns - Natural Areas would need
to be involved)
o Cass Park (pool building and other buildings? need approval - Parks
Commission needs to be involved)
Approved – 12/9/15
2
o West Village water tank (need approval, but sounds like there is support -
community needs to be involved)
o Facilities Garage (North, South, and West facing walls)
o Green St Garage (large wall on the right at entrance)
o Back of helix (ground floor Green St Garage/across from City Hall)
6. Other Business: Next meeting, December 9 at 4PM
