Dear Supervisor Williams,
I feel compelled to write this letter to yourself and the distinguished members of the Town Board.
You have been extremely gracious to the Cortlandville Fire Department and we cannot thank you enough
for your support and recognition which has led to this correspondence. On Friday April 14", the
Cortlandville Fire Department was faced with another major fire involving multiple buildings that
necessitated the response of both the Cortlandville Water and Highway Departments.
It was evident from the start a tremendous amount of water would be required to battle the blaze.
I placed a call to Brian Congdon who immediately took steps to protect the Town's water system and
provide the adequate flows required by us to fight the fire. The second issue that arose was run-off water
and potential for contaminates. While the DEC's Spill Response Team was notified and enroute, it was felt
we should create a berm to pool the water. I placed a call to Larry Drach who immediately assembled a
crew to get us an excavator and dump trucks with sand to pool the water allowing for DEC being able to
capture all the water and have it removed.
We at the Cortlandville Fire Department are so fortunate to have such a close relationship with
every facet of the Town of Cortlandville. Every department in the Town is amazing, extremely friendly,
responsive and experts in their fields. I feel it is important to formally recognize the efforts from both the
highway and water departments. Their employees are second to none. They are the best. This is nothing
new to us but in the last year we have required their assistance extensively in the wee hours of the night,
weekends and on several holidays. They are always there for us and we are so grateful.
