Commission Meeting Minutes
The regular bi-monthly meeting of the Town of Cortlandville Parks and
Recreation commission was held on Wednesday, February 15th, 2023 at 4:30pm
The meeting was help at Raymond Thorpe Municipal Building conference room.
Commissions Present: Machell Phelps, Katy Wagner, Abe Johnson
Commissions Excused: John Folmer and Matt Coats
Others Present: John McNerney
1.The meeting started with a review of the minutes from the previous meeting
which was held on December 13th, 2022. During the review of the minutes John
talked about the portable pitching mounds. He also updated board members
about the 2023 bookings to date. Abe Johnson ask about field status in March
and John informed him we should be ready to play on time but will have some
final concrete work and landscaping. Batting cages are also pending good
weather.
2. Reviewed John McNerney December 2022 and January 2023 Activity report
with board members. Discussion was had regarding the following topics in the
report: PO’s for Athletic Equipment, PBRT fencing request, Press Release for
Guthrie Medical Center sponsorship. John also talked about the Cortland Crush
schedule conflict with PBRT Fathers Day weekend.
3. Agenda item discussion regarding NYSPRHP planning grant was updated.
Plan is to conduct a market Feasibility study for the next phase #3 development
at GLSC was outlined by John. The development of a Request for Proposals is
being developed similar to our 2016 study. Goal is to select a firm and start
work on the study in 2023.
4. John gave an update on the Cross Country trail conversation and the HUB
Building design. The HUB Building will house restrooms, team rooms,
concession stand and office space is being designed by CHA. A handout was
issued plus a map of potential field development impact on the site. Map
showed additional multi-purpose fields and baseball fields. The timeline for the
HUB building construction is starting in Mid August with completion goal of
March 2024.
5. One of the concerns with the cross country trail location in the starting area
that needs to be 100 yard wide and 150 yards long to host large scale meets.
Also the course variation difference between a modified course and NCAA
course.
7. We discussed and established our next meeting date of Wednesday, April
11th or 18th, 2023.
