TOWN OF DANBY
TOWN BOARD MINUTES
December 7 , 1967
The regular meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Danby
was haled at the Danby Fire House , Thursday , December 7 , 1967
at 8 : 00 P . M .
Board Members Present : Supervisor James H . Cortright , Councilmen
Donald Makie , Donald Barber and Justice
Floyd Dorn .
Absent : Justice Moses Peter
Also Present : Zoning Officer Hatfield , Highway Superintendent
Chaffee , Attorney Richard Thaler , Francis Wright ,
• Alfred Schoneman , Gordon Roberts , Willard Daetsch ,
Wendell Bryce , Robert Hiney , Ralph Wilbur , Roger
Howell and Mrs . Sue Hautala .
Before the Town Board meeting , Supervisor asked the Clerk
to open sealed bids which were received for a used Bucket Loader .
Bids were received from Central New York Equipment Co . , Inc . ,
Syracuse Supply Company , and Atlantic Tug and Equipment Co . , Inc .
Supervisor Cortright called the Town Board Meeting to order .
Minutes of the November meeting were read and approved .
COMMUNICATIONS
1 . From New York State Electric & Gas Corporation re : Street
Lighting renewal contract for the Town of Danby , including
three additional lights and the new mercury vapor rate .
2 , ' From Association of Towns acknowledging receipt of 1968 dues .
3 . From The Standard Engineering Corporation with copy of letter
to . N , Y . S . E.. &G . requesting their preliminary approval or
comment on the proposed power source for the Water District .
4 . From Danby Fire District re : Town Barns for use as a fire house .
5 . Resolution # 210 , Tompkins County Board of Supervisors -
Apportionment of Election Expenses .
6 . From State of New York , Department of Transportation - Notice
r of action as of November 8 , 1967 .
PRIVILEGE OF FLOOR
None from the Board .
Mr , Willard Daetsch reported that he and Ralph Wilbur lost
theft outside Christmas Tree lights last evening .
Mr , Gordon Roberts , Chairman of the Board of Zoning Appeals ,
reported they will be holding a meeting and asked where the
meetings are to be held and to whom cleared with . Supervisor
stated a committee to handle these affairs consisting of Ralph
Wilbur from the Fire Commissioners , Jim Epp from the Fire Company
and Floyd Dorn from the Town Board , . and suggested first calling
Jim Epp .
Mr . Ralph Wilbur asked if it would be possible to have a
larger " Justice Court " sign with a light . Ralph also asked it
• it is advisable to install a pump for the Water District before
bids are let . Supervisor explained the reason for installing
pump and running a pilot study- -there is a slight trace of sulphur
in water and can take it out with chlorine gas , anticipate no
problem but want this done beforehand , so once the system is in
water can be put into lines . If need of a chlorinator , this can
be included in the bid .
Mrs . Sue Hautala . asked about the light which was at the
intersection of Hornbrook Road and Route 96B before construction .

Zoning - Reported by Councilman Makie - Makie reported nothing has
been heard on zoning map .

Youth - Reported by Councilman Barber - Barber reported well is
finished . Well is 212 feet deep , about 12 gallons an
hour , within 4 feet of top of casing . Feel this is
adequate . Work inside Town Hall is at a standstill
because of no heat . Supervisor Cortright stated there
is coal left and custodian Edward Slights will start
the furnace when wantedc,
Refuse Collection and Disposal - Reported by Makie - none .
O LD BUSINESS
H ighway Superintendent ' s Report - Chaffee reported gravel is
• being crushed for Michigan
Hollow Road which will not
be finished until next year ,
of ter 4 January .
. . Zoning Officer ' s Report ® Hatfield reported he has a problem
which has been talked over with
Attorney Thaler , will work on it
for a while .
Planning Board - no one present .
Appeals Board - covered ; on Privilege of Floor by Chairman Roberts .
Board of Assessors - no one present .
tr West - Danby Water District - Supervisor reported still in
negotiation for land where the
tank and well site are , very possible
to go to bid after the first of the
year . No reply from attorneys for
Farmers Home Administration .
Recreation Land - Makie moved that ,;the Town Attorney negotiate
a price for recreational land in the Jennings
Pond area and the same in West Danby with
intent of securing option for two ( 2 ) years
for a nominal sum and at the attorney-.; s
d iscretion .

NEW BUSINESS
Natural Gas Service for Danby - Supervisor reported he has
made a verbal request for 1
. a survey to be done in Danby
because of the interest here .
Requests for Legal Costs - Town of Danby vs . Autosalvage
Supervisor Cortright reported following figures from the
records :

1962 . 4 nothing
1963 - nothing Total - $ 1 , 791 . 63
New Agreement with the Electric & Gas regarding Street Lights -
Supervisor reported areas discussed where street lights ,
three , are needed . . They are on Maple . Avenue on the " S "
curve , intersection of German Cross Road and Coddington
Road , and the foot of East Miller Road and Coddington Road .
Makie moved that the Supervisor be authorized to sign an
agreement with the New York State Electric & Gas on behalf
of the Town for fourteen 7 , 000 lumen mercury vapor lamps -U
at a rate of $ 45 . 00 per-- lamp .
Seconded . by Barber . 4 ayes , 0 noes , carried .
Discussion and action on amount Town of Danby owes County Treasure "'
Dorn moved that the Supervisor - be authorized to pay to
the County Treasurer Two - thousand four hundred sixty-two
dollars and two cents ( $ 2 , 462 . 02 ) , involving six items
clearing the Town with the County through 1967.
Seconded by Makie . 4 ayes , 0 noes , carried .
Sign for Justice Court at Fire House -
Discussion on need for a lighted sign at the- Fire House
designating where Justice Court is held , days , and hours .
Supervisor will follow through .
Furnace in Town Hall - Supervisor has obtained- one estimate -
