HomeMy WebLinkAbout1967-10-19 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE DANBY PLANNING BOARD AND TOWN BOARD 411 OCTOBER 19 , 1967 A special meeting of the Danby Planning Board and Town Board was called by Moses Peter , Thursday , October 19 , 1967 at 8 : 40 p . m . Members present : Moses Peter , Floyd Dorn , George Arsenault , James Cortright , Mrs . James Epp , Joe Short , Herbert Muzzy , Don Makie Reporter : Sue Strandberg The reason for this meeting is action toward Sanitary Land Fill Site . Mr . Peter outlind the steps that had gone before : Secured recommendations for Sanitary Land Fill site - about 9 suggestions No one would sell properties for Sanitary Land Fill Auto Salvage wanted more than the 3 acres now restricted to Hornbrook Road Sanitary Land Fill proposed site - several families had severe objections For 20 acres - Auto Salvage would have to obtain a varience • County refuge disposal site - not town should be embarking on Sanitary Land Fill ( Liguori feels there should be 3 or 4 sites for whole county ) Joe Short recommends the Planning Board recommend to Town Board to buy the proper- ty from Auto Salvage for Sanitary Land Fill site , in case County should change its mind and a sanitary land fill need still exits we would have the property . Junk yard ( Auto Salvage ) - we have Court decision in our favor - no one knows how to enforce it . Force junkyard to stay on 3 acres , threatened to pile the cars Ali high . This is a business , should encourage them , would build a fine building and plant trees to enhance the place . Wise to buy the property from Auto Salvage for $ 3500 for 50 acres . Buy land but not for sanitary land fill purpose as it is valuable for building lots . The preceeding was discussion by members . Discussion on operation of Seymour ' s Sanitary business . Mrs . Epp described her experience of Sanitary Land Fill . Informed by the County Health Department - Liguori said the health department would close the existing dump in 2 years ( 1963 ) , this condition existed until just recently when Liguori changed his statement . IIIMinutes of September 1967 were read by Jim Cortright ( Town Board Minutes ) - reference Sanitary Land Fill purchasing property - matter of record it would take a lot of work . Jim Cortright read letter re : Refuge and Disposal Committee appointments of Mose Peter and Don Makie . - Proceed with acquistion of site - 1 . Sanitary Land Fill site - we own , maintain , control ® 2 . County S . L . F . - problems , - County control , large number of people using dump 3 . Privately owned site - how much control over it 1+ . Refuse collection - hauled to another town 5 . Read reference 221 of Town Law Discussion on present dump- option on land from Landstrom , etc . The Planning Board recommends the Town Board purchase the 50 acres from Auto Salvage . Agreed . Mr . Cortright questioned the people present on the thoughts of the Water Report he had .
