Dear Supervisor Williams and Town Board:
I have spent the past year learning.Learning about what it is a Town Historian is
responsible for,learning about the history of Cortlandville,and learning about
what I can bring to the table in this position.
All of the Historian files for the Town of Cortlandville used to be stored over at
the Highway Garage in Polkville.Upon return to the Town Hall they were stored
in the basement for safe keeping.I have finally begun the task of sorting through
and organizing these files to bring this history to life.
As I thumb through these files and learn more about the history of the Town it
makes me wonder,‘Who else knows this?’Does anyone else know about it?How
do I share this information?These will be my leading questions as I move forward
in this work!
I decided to start by going through all of our photos.I think photos are so
captivating and have so much to share.We have a number of photos of businesses
around the Town.I have also begun taking new photos of these businesses to
timestamp their current condition.
I am looking forward to the year ahead!
