HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 2021 March 9 bicentennial committeeEnfield Bicentennial Committee March 16, 1821 – March 16, 2021 March 9, 2021 Zoom Meeting Present: Ellie Hobbie,Ann Rider, Barb Sadovnic,Sue Thompson Minutes from the February 16, 2021 meeting were e-mailed to members of the Committee. Ellie Hobbie, Ann Rider and Sue Thompson wrote a proclamation for the Bicentennial, March 16. Ann Rider sent a 10. Ann Rider, with suggestion from others, suggested that the March 20 meeting which had been planned in part, should be moved to May 9th. This is the date of the regular Spring Fair. The ceremony could be held at the Community Building outdoors. She will check with the Community Council to confirm the date. Ann Rider said she spoke with Eric Carter regarding the Teen Group putting together a video for the cermony. The group was enthusiastic about the project. The Elementary School teachers were not sure how they would be involved yet. Suggested to video tape the May 9 day. Ann Rider said she would contact Debbie Teeter to send out notices to legislative representatives. Sue Thompson will put together a list of suggestions/ideas made in committee meetings. She will add it to the minutes of this meeting. They have extra fabric to make pillows and another single quilt.Book update – Sue Thompson is working on it.Stone House – tour etc. Ellie Hobbie will check on any activity which the Stone House may be involved in.T-shirts – Ellie Hobbie is checking on where T-shirts could be printed.Time Capsule – Sue Thompson working on (Notes maybe a time capsule buried in the cemetery).Newsletter – Currents – article by Ann Rider to be placed there. There was a suggestion for a meeting to be held in a two weeks. Ann Rider will contact the committee for time and exact date. Submitted by Sue Thompson Ideas for celebration from community members: Enfield Elementary School and was not sure of their involvement at this point. Logo Contest - T-shirts Next year's Country Fair and Harvest Festival will have an 1821 theme of heritage crafts and old time games A beard and mustache contest An Ice Cream Social Quilt – Ann Rider will contact others and find a pattern possibly used in 1821. Treman State Par Tony Ingraham “A Walk In The Park” videos on Treman State Park Main celebration funding is needed for: printing invitations - posters; refreshments – cakes, drinks, cups, napkins, plastic ware, etc.; invitations – stamps. Community Grants program in Tompkins County has been canceled for 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Funding in Town Budget for celebration Eric Carter Grange on “pop-up” exhibits in the Grange for a two week period of time. digitalproject using GIS. This would involve using historical maps and current maps to locate “historical” locations in the town, churches, stores, farms, etc. interviews with older residents in the town could be conducted at the March 20th Ceremony or the Harvest Festival. Barb Sadovnic identifying people who were born in Enfield in 1821; placed the 1821 resident biographies on the ECC web page. Earl Andrews 1996) Display of the original recipes in the Commemorative Cookbook 1996 in the historian collection. Maybe a project would be to place the recipes in a book to show the handwriting, etc. and write a little about the person. There are still some printed copies of the Cookbook and a pdf copy can be found on the Enfield Town website. Discussion of possible tours of the Stone House and Old Mill at Treman State Park might be done. There was also discussion of a “living history” event possibly at the Harvest Festival. Time Capsule project. County Clerk’s Office and has permission to place the Time Capsule in the storage unit at the “old” Seneca Army Depot for the County. Sue Thompson will also work on a genealogical project where people can submit information regarding their families and how they are connected to the first settlers of the town. There was discussion on costumes of the 1820 time period and how to make them for committee members to wear during the celebration events. Sue Thompson reported that Rhonda Linton and Helen Heatherington inquired about doing a commemorative plaque with a listing of the Town of Enfield Supervisors. There are approximately 66 names on the list starting at 1821. Ann Rider reported talking to a member of the Ithaca Shakespeare Company regarding the group presenting a play on Enfield. She was thinking of them doing the presentation at the Woodward Stone House in Enfield. Ann Rider reported that Leon Ginenthal, Der Rosenmeister, 7 Mile Drive, Ithaca, was interested in doing a talk in the Christian Cemetery on the wild roses that grow there.
