There was discussion on the 1996 Flag which was flown over the town hall for the 175 th birthday. If it is still around could it be used again. Sue Thompson will check for the flag in the historians collection. It was also suggested we could get a new one to fly. Sue Thompson is updating the Time Line for the history book. Ellie Hobbie suggested putting up a timeline on the wall of the school for the birthday in March. This was done in 1996 and people signed the timeline. The old one is no longer around and Sue Thompson will look for the timeline made from the signatures and comments. NOTE: Sue Thompson forgot to report that Beth McGee offered to help set up on Amazon.com an online purchase of the history book if the Committee would like to go in that direction. This would be a pdf version of the book for people to purchase and download. Ann Rider spoke with John Wertis, Ulysses Town Historian and Enfield Elementary School Principle in the 1960’s. He is very enthusiastic about the Bicentennial celebration and hopes to be able to help in some way. He reminded Ann Rider of the Tompkins County Historical Commission and to keep in touch with them in regard to funding projects for this celebration. Carol Kammen, Michael Lane and John Wertis are a few of the members on the committee. Ellie Hobbie volunteered to update the Buildings section of the History book. She will also contact the Friends of the Mill group to see if they would like to do a presentation of some sort for the Bicentennial. The Town of Ithaca will also be celebrating their 200 th birthday in 2020. The Town of Ulysses was separated into Enfield and Ithaca on March 16, 1821. It was suggested we find out what the Town of Ithaca will be doing for their celebration. Maybe the committee should make a poster for advertising Enfield’s Celebration. Eric Carter is working with the Youth Group of Enfield, Cooperative Extension and the Grange to apply for a Pitch Program Grant. This grant will enable the Youth Group to initiate an inter- generational (youth and Seniors) communication for interviews regarding the town’s history and aspirations of the future. This oral history cold then be collated into presentations at the Spring 2020 Country Faire and the Fall 2020 Enfield Harvest Festival. Also presentations at the Grange. There was discussion on who the older families were in the town, Rumsey, Hubbell and Teeter were mentioned. Members will share suggestions with Eric as they think of them. Enfield Bicentennial Committee February 11, 2020 - 2 Eric Carter also asked to look into a digital project using GIS. This would involve using historical maps and current maps to locate “historical” locations in the town, churches, stores, farms, etc. He will contact the Cornell GIS department. Eric Carter informed the Committee that the Grange asked him to be a liaison for them on the Committee. Ann Rider reported that the Grange had said they would be willing to host a exhibit/display for the Bicentennial at the Grange. Details will have to be worked out. It would be a good idea since the Grange holds lots of community events. Ann Rider discussed asking older families for a donation of fabric from the “quilters stash” example: Nina Linton family. She is not looking for new fabric but fabric that the quilter may have had “back in the day”. She will start contacting people and asked for suggestions of other quilters from members. There was discussion on having a “post mark” March 16, 2021 from the post office for the celebration day. Ann Rider will contact the Trumansburg Post Office to find out how to do the postmark. Ann Rider reported she had one person Valerie Longcoy asked to be put on the contact list for the committee. Ann Rider noted The Community Foundation Grants as a resource available for the celebration. A design for a Logo for a T-shirt was suggested. There was a discussion for a contest for a logo. Ann Rider will ask a few people for a design. No one was interested in organizing a “Mustache” contest but it will be kept on the agenda in case anyone else wants to organize this contest. Next meeting: March 10, 2020. Submitted by Sue Thompson and Ann Rider
