Mary Odell was born 25 February 1820 to David and Charlotte (Woodworth) Odell in Tyre,
Seneca Co., New York (north of Seneca Falls).
Mary married Dr. Peter Head (1818-1884) about 1839 and moved to Pennsylvania where their
first child (Joseph) was born in 1841. By 1842 they had returned to New York State and settled
in Fayette, Seneca County where their second child (Sarah) was born. Their next two children
Charles (b. 1844) and Ann (b. 1851) were born in Enfield Center.
Mary died 4 May 1853 of unknown causes at the age of 33y 2m 9d and is buried in Christian
Cemetery, Enfield, Tompkins Co., New York. Her gravestone shows the original spelling of her
name “Merrey”.
Peter remarried to Sarah M. Bird on 19 Mar 1854 and relocated to Van Etten, Chemung County,
New York where he gave up his medical practice and became a Farmer and Lumberman. He
and his family later moved west to Wisconsin, then to the Indian Territory, and finally to Red
Cloud, Nebraska where he died in 1884.
