TOWN OF DANBY
TOWN BOARD MINUTE:S
January 5 , 1967
_ The regular meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Danby was held at
the Town Hall , Thursday , January 5 , 1967 at 8 : 00 P . M .
Present : Supervisor James H . Cortright , Councilman Donald Barber , Justices
Floyd born and Moses Peter . Also present : Highway Superintendent
Chaffee and Zoning Officer Hatfield .
Absent : Councilman Donald Makie .
Also Present:; Mrs . Joan Stewart , Mrs . Harriet Moore , George Clarkson , Wendell
• Bryce , Rick Dobson , Paul Hoover , Gould Colman , Woitto Lehto ,
Neil Nelson and"Duke Schoneman . •
Supervisor Cortright called the meeting to order . Minutes of the
December meeting were read and approved as corrected . Minutes of the
Annual Audit meeting were read and approved .
COMMUNICATIONS
1 . Resignation by Floyd Dorn from the Danby Planning Board .
2 . Regarding Proposed West Dahby Water District , the following :
a . Copy of letter from State of New York Department of Health to
the Project Engineer regarding reviewing data .
b . Letter to Town of Danby from Project Engineer .
c . Supervisor ' s answer ,
3 . From State Traffic Commission - Notices of Action .
4 . Letter from State Department , Assistant Attorney General re : State Highway
. No . 5122 .
5 . Report of Examination of Audit filed in clerk ' s office
6 . From Danby Community Council regarding future needs of various community
groups .
7 . Association of Towns information of annual meeting in New York .

George Clarkson hopes the Town Board will get an answer to the community
Council ' s letter . ' Sees need for town office but questions need of town clerk
goind to office .
Rick , Dobson feels priority should be given to Town of Danby Fire Department .
Gould Colman will be interested in how Town Board is seeing the need for
building . .
Resident on Gunderman__ Road shocked over his taxes and any building should
be kept . economical .
Neil Nelson said he was glad to see thatthe highway _ men received a raise .

Highway Superintendent ' s Report - Supervisor Cortright asked Dick about
situation of trees in West Danby . Mr .
Chaffee reported that in about two weeks

the Electric and Gas will cut branches
around the wires .
Zoning - no report .
Planning Board - no one present .
Appeals Board - no one present .
Board of Assessors - no one present .

Jennings Pond - Supervisor reported that the rip rap is in .
Troy Road Junkyard and Sanitary Land Fill - Justice Peter reported that the
Attorney has been advised but
a report has not been received .
West Danby Water District - Heard under communications . Supervisor reported
the survey is not completed and boundaries not
established . Supervisor feels that Layne -Hall
should be paid . Peter is in favor of putting
off payment until after meeting with the Fire
Commissioners . Board agreed . Supervisor will
inform Standard Engineering .
Town Office Building - Supervisor Cortright reported on the written estimate
of $ 18 , 000 from Frank Saturn on renovating the present
Town Hall . ' Jiscussiong followed .
Local Junk Car Law - Justice Peter moved that the Town of Danby adopt the
Local Junk Car Law as presented .

Justice Peter moved that Harry Hatfield be appointed
enforcement officer of the Junk Car Law . Floyd Dorn

P lanning Board Vacancy - Barber moved to appoint George Arsenault a member of
the Danby Planning Board to fill the unexpired term /�

Examination of Audit of Town - copy on file in Supervisor ' s office and Clerk ' s
office .
Meeting of Town Board with Mr . Bardwell , Superintendent of the Ithac4 School
District , to discuss the use of Danby Elementary School - January 11 , 1967 .
Audit of former Justice Henry Makarainen ' s books by Cortright , Dorn and
Peter - January 18 , 1967 , 7 : 30 P . M .
Correspondence on Layne -Hall Company - Board favors accepting their proposal .
Communication from Community Council - Supervisor feels after Town Board
meets with the Fire Commissioner , schedule a meeting to discuss needs .
P eter moved to have Emil Huttunen , Deputy Town Clerk in West Danby , bonded
by Ithaca Insurance Agency . Seconded by Barber . 4 ayes , 0 noes , carried .
Highway Bills - Dorn moved to pay Highway Bills totalling $ 1 , 476 . 42 , # 1
through # 12 as listed on Warrant # 1 . Seconded by Barber .
