Dear Mr. Williams,
The Cortland County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is sponsoring an Erosion and
Sediment Control (E&SC) class on February 23, 2023. The training will run from 8:30 to 12:30 with
check -in between 8:00 and 8:30. The training will be in person at the Grange Building Auditorium,
Cortland, NY. Registration materials are available on our website (htt)s://cortlandswcd.oraA
Registration forms and payment of $75/person must be received in our office by Tuesday, February
21, 2023.
Any construction project that involves soil disturbance greater than one acre must obtain coverage
under the State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) General Permit for Stormwater
Discharges from a Construction Activity. Under the current SPDES General Permit, contractors and
construction inspectors are required to complete a 4-hour E&SC training class endorsed by the New
York State Department of Conservation (DEC) every three years.
This session will be an opportunity to review and perhaps learn more about erosion and sediment
control measures your town may be able to utilize during construction activities such as road and
ditch construction or maintenance. Your highway department may already be aware of the need for
this training. Please feel free to invite town highway personnel, board members and your
municipality's Code Enforcement Officer as well.
