TOWN OF DANBY
TOWN BOARD MINUTES
August 4 , 1966
The regular meeting of the Town Board of the Town of
D anby was held at the Town Hall , Thursday , August 4 , 1966
at 8 : 00 P . M .
P resent : Supervisor James H . Cortright , Councilmen Donald
Barber and Donald Makie , Justices) Henry Makarainen
and Moses Peter . Also present : Highway Superintend -
ent Chaffee , Zoning Officer Hatfield , and George
Potter , Jack Baker , John Shepherdson , Gould Colman ,
Mrs . Turk , Raymond Mayo , Robert Bartholf and Joseph ! -
Petricola .
The meeting was called to order by Supervisor Cortright .
Minutes of the July meeting were read and approved .
COMMUNICATIONS
1 . Danby Community Council inviting Town Board to meet with
them at 8 : 30 P . M . Wednesday , August 24 .
2 . State Board of Equalization and Assessment regarding
exemption for the aged .
3 . State Board of Equalization and Assessment re : Billing of
taxes for state - owned lands subject to taxation and trans -
ition a § sessments on the assessment roll completed in 1966 .
P RIVILEGE OF FLOOR
None from the Board , Gould Colman thought Cleminshaw valued
farm property rather steep , wondered what Town Board reaction
will be . Supervisor advised to meet with Board of Assessors
in answer to discussion concerning property assessments , from
several in attendance .
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES
Highway - none
Zoning - Councilman Makie reported people in West Danby have
started proceedings toward some sort of community
park . Makie discussed road names with Bergman .
Fire - none
Cemeteries - Makarainen reported work on cemetery by the Town
Barns is half done .
Insurance - Peter reported he has referred materials from different
insurance comparjes to the Supervisor .
Youth - none
OLD BUSINESS
• Highway - Superintendent Chaffee reported the special improve -
ments done , oiling and stoning . 6 of a mile on Brown
Road and 1 . 2 of a mile on West King Road . One - half
of one Erwin Project done , south end of Nelson Road .
One man left in Highway Department after this week .
Discussion of vacation pay after terminating employment .
Zoning - none
P lanning Board - Chairman absent . Board asked Clerk to have the
secretary of the Community Council extend invitation
to Planning Board to attend meeting on August 24 .
Appeals Board - Chairman absent .
B oard of Assessors - Chairman absent .
J ennings Pond = Supervisor Cortright said it is time to advertise
for bids for completion of dike and culvert. A special
meeting will be needed to take action on this matter .
Troy Road Junkyard - Supervisor Cortright reported a meeting held
w ith the owners who have come up with a proposition
w hich he will discuss with Town Board members .
West Danby Water District - Supervisor reported at a standstill ,
problem with pipe used .
Town Office Building - no report .
Sanitary Land Fill - no report .
Town Employees ' Retirement Program - Supervisor said plans will
be presented in ample time to incorporate in the 1967
budget .

NEW BUSTNESS
Tax Exemption for the Aged - Recommended by Town Assessors .
P eter made the motion that the Town Board hold a public
hearing at the Town Hall , August 24 , 1966 at 7 : 30 P . M .
to hear all interested persons for or against a proposal
to provide for a Partial Tax Exemption. of real property
owned by certain persons with limited income who are
65 years or over . Seconded by Barber . 5 ayes , 0 noes ,
carried .
Ordinance Licensing and Regulating Junkyards - Board agreed
to move along on type of ordinance used by the Town of
N ewfield which is to be referred to Danby Planning Board
for their opinions . Question of incorporating in Danby ' s
zoning ordinance or adopting separately .
P eter made the motion to reimburse the Community Council
$40 . 00 to cover a bill they paid in error . Seconded by
Makie . 5 ayes , 0 noes , carried .
Vacation Pay, for Jonathan Smith - settleAm executive session .
Public Meeting - Supervisor _Cortright said it is the general
consensus of the Town Board that not enough inf o,rmat ion
is available to hold any kind of a public meeting
regarding any community building .
Disposition of Records from Town Vault -
Makarainen made the motion that the town clerk be
authorized to dispose of certain record items from
town vault after consent from the Commissi.oner of
Education . Seconded by Barber . 5 ayes , 0 noes , carried .
General Bills - Peter moved to pay General Fund Bills , i I .
totalling $ 228 . 91 #63 through #69 as
listed on Warrant 8 . Seconded by Barber .

Highway Bills - Barber moved to pay Highway Fund Bills
totalling $6 , 307 . 13 #71 through #79 as
listed on Warrant 8 . Seconded by
Makarainen . 5 ayes , 0 noes , carried .
Supervisor ' s Report - Makie moved to accept the Supervisor ' s
Report . Seconded by Barber . 4 ayes ,
0 noes , carried .
