TOWN OF DANBY
TOWN BOARD MINUTES
June 2 , 1966
The regular meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Danby was
held at the Town Hall , Thursday , June 2 , 1966 at 8 : 00 P . M .
Present : Supervisor James H . Cortright , Councilmen Donald Barber and
Donald Makie and Justice Henry Makarainen .
Absent : Justice Moses Peter
Also present : Zoning Officer Hatfield and Assessor Bergman , Roland
. Tamblyn , Mr . and Mrs . Donald Wright , Wendell Bryce
and Alfred Schoneman .
The meeting was called to order by Supervisor Cortright . Minutes
of the May meeting were read and approved .
COMMUNICATIONS
1 . Finger Lakes State Parks Commission re : Jennings Pond , list of
items that require Town ' s attention .
2 . State Board of Equalization - Estimated 1966 assessments and
transitions .
3 . Attorney Manley Thaler re : West Danby Water District , report of
meeting of the General Counsel for Farm Home Loan Administration .
PRIVILEGE OF FLOOR
None from the Board .
Roland Tamblyn expressed appreciation of Town Highway Department
on Danby Clean - up . Also H 'g Iday Department supplied truck and driver
to place floats in Danby Pond . Mr . Tamblyn would like answer when
Jennings Pond grounds will be cleaned . Mr . Bryce has talked some
with Ed Roberts . Reported that Mrs . Emery will have her 4 - H group
seed . Duke Schoneman said he will get the seed . Supervisor will
let Mr . Tamblyn know when pond will be ready .
Don Wright asked about getting calcium on Jim Brown Road .
Supervisor will reply .
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Highway - none -
Zoning - Councilman Makie reported a meeting to be held with the
Planning Board on June 16 , to go over point by point all
items in proposed revision of the zoning ordinance ready
for adoption .
Fire - Councilman Barber reported the Fire Commissioners met with
Town Board in executive session to discuss their building
problems . -
Cemetertes - Justice Makarainen reported work has started on cemetery
near the Town Barns .
Insurance - none
Youth - none
OLD BUSINESS
Highway - Superintendent absent
Zoning - pending -
Planning Board - chairman absent
Appeals Board - chairman absent
Board of Assessors - Chairman Bergman reported that the assessment
roll is being completed , all parcels being
identified with map # and parcel # . Grievance
Day will be June 21 , from 2 P . M until 6 P . I .
Open hearings on reappraisals to be third or
fourth week in July .
Town Hall - no report from Professor Jacobs .
Jennings Pond - Supervisor Cortright went over items listed in
Simpkins ' letter that need Towns ' attention .
1 . Ruts in need of top soil and seeded in driveway and lawn area .
Supervisor will contact Simpkins .
2 . Area not raked , and grass areas need mowing .
Ed Roberts to take care of .
3 . Large steel flume pipe not removed from picnic area .
Highway Superintendent Chaffee will ask Chemung Supply to remove .

4 . Toilet buildings have not been cleaned out .

5 . Garbage has not been picked up .

6 . Top of original dike has not been graded where bulldozer tore up
surface . Refer to Simpkins .
7 . 1 " x 6 " x 8 ' wood cleats were torn off planks covering top of
spillway , by bulldozer , should be replaced to hold plank in
place . Supervisor will take care of .
Supervisor Cortright stated that if monies are needed to pay
for maintenance at Jennings Pond , he will ask the Town Board to
appropriate needed funds .
Troy Road Junkyard — still pending
West Danby Water District - Councilman Makie reported drilling when
down to 274 feet , water supply was 100
gallons per minute . Assured of a well
adequate to supply needs .
Town Office Building - Town Board met with Fire Commissioners and
discussed their needs . At this point ; there
is no decision made .
Sanitary Land Fill - pending
Town Employees ' Retirement Program - no report
NEW BUSINESS
Letter from Mrs . Adams 3 month ' s ago re : trees - Supervisor reported
trees in question do promote a hazard and has not reached
Electric & Gas to reach an agreement on sharing the cost .
Makie moved to appropriate funds to hire someone to remove the
trees and payment to be made from Item Ip of the Highway Fund .
Seconded by Barber . 4 ayes , 0 noes , carried .
Makarainen moved that Chaffee use oil on dirt roads in front of
houses . Seconded by Makie . 4 ayes , 0 noes , carried .
Petition from reside—Its on Brown Road - concerned over condition of
road - Supervisor, .assumes Chaffee will put oil and stone on road
under Special Improvement Program .
E lection Inspectors - Barber moved that the following qualified
persons be appointed Election Inspectors in the Town of Danby
for the year July 1 , 1966 to June 30 , 1967 in District I and
District II ; -

Makarainen moved to pay Highway Bills #56 through #59 totalling
391 . 08 as listed on Warrant #6 . Seconded by Barber . 4 ayes ,
0. noes , carried .
Makie moved to pay General Fund Bills #37 through #47 totalling
$470 . 05 as listed on Warrant #6 . Seconded by Barber . 4 ayes ,

Makie moved to accept the Supervisor ' s Report . Seconded by
Barber . 3 ayes , 0 noes , carried .
Barber moved to adjourn at 9 : 30 P . M . Unanimously agreed .
