Property Location: 171 E. State Street (Center Ithaca)
Requirement for Which Variance is Requested: Prohibition against flashing signs, prohibition against
billboards, number and size of signs.
Applicable Section of City Zoning Code: Section 272 -5 D., Flashing Signs; Section 272 -5 I., Billboards; Section
272 -6 B. (2), ordinance only permits 2 wall signs with a maximum of 50 SF each.

Hearing: A Public Hearin was held on September 1, 2015. No one spoke in favor of the proposal. No
one spoke against the proposal.
Motion: Moved to deny request by Marshall McCormick.
Environmental Review: Planning and Development Board, Unlisted Action, Negative Declaration.

Development Board Recommendation- The Planning Board's primary concern is the interval that
f the sign changes is too short. A secondary concern is with the graphic design. It should not be

'c commercial graphics and should be specifically and thoughtfully designed. The Board urges the BZA

to require that at the City receive formal written assurance from the applicant that the LED programming will
address the Board's concerns.
Factors Considered:
