TOWN OF DANBY
TOWN BOARD MINUTES
January 6 , 1966
The regular meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Danby
was held at the Town Hall , Thursday , January 6 , 1966 at 8 : 00 P . M .
Present : Supervisor James H . Cortright , Councilmen Donald
Barber and Donald Makie , Justices Moses Peter and Henry Makarainen .
Also present : Highway Superintendent Chaffee , Zoning Officer
Hatfield , and Roy Casterlihe , William Hendrix , Martha Makarainen ,
Paul Smith ,' Reginald Nelson , Neil Nelson , Joe Short , George
Clarkson , Woitto LehEo , Gordon Roberts , Wendell Bryce and Rick
Dobson .
Supervisor Cortright called the meeting to order . Minutes
of the December meeting were read and approved as corrected .
• COMMUNICATIONS
1 . From Finger Lakes State Parks Commission - ennings Pond License .
2 . Ithaca Agency Insurance - Renewals , Town of Danby .
3 . From Attorney Manley Thaler to Judge Simpson - Danby vs . Bartholf .
• 1+ . From Tompkins County Highway Department - County ( used )
equipment to be sold to the Town .
PRIV-ILEGE OF FLOOR
None from the Board .
Rick Dobson said he is opposed to any spending on Jennings
Pond without a bid . Regarding junk yards, he says this is a bad
time ' of year to move them .
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES
Highway - . none . .
Zoning - Makie reported regional plan is in process of being put
• together .
Fire - none
Cemetery - none
Insurance - Makarainen and Peter met with Bill Scott of Ithaca
Insurance to go over the Town insurance .
Youth - none
OLD BUSINESS
Highway 8 Superintendent Chaffee reported last Erwin Road finished
and working on Updike Road .
1 Zoning - Officer Hatfield reported we have to wait for new zoning
ordinance regarding junk ° ears .
Planning Board - Chairman absent . No report from member present .
Appeals Board - _ Chairman absent . No report from member present .
Assessors - Chairman absent .
Town Hall Study - Supervisor Cortright will ask Professor Jacobs
for a written report on study of Town Hall .
Jennings Pond - Cortright reported meeting with Ryan and some
maintenance personnel of the Finger Lakes State
• Parks Commission . They object to pipe bought to
use and concerned with the fact of losing water
storage . Board feels they must antinue with this
project and that more information is needed at this
point ..
Troy Road Junkyard - Attorney Manley Thaler has written Judge
Simpson that this be pneented at next term
of SupremenCourt .
West Danby Water District - Supervisor Cortright reported qt
this point , no indication where test wells will
be drilled or how many .
Sanitary Land Fill - no report . .
Bingo - dismissed from agenda .
Town Office Building - Peter suggested town officials meet with
Board to view needs , space requirements , etc .
Scheduled January 27 , at 5 : 30 P . M to visit
Town Office building in Vestal .
Special Census - nothing definite at this time .

Designations - . Town of Danby
Official Newspaper - Peter moved that the Ithaca Journal be the
official newspaper . Seconded by Makie .

be the depository . Seconded by Barber . 5 ayes ,

Mileage - Makarainen moved . 08 ¢ a mile for official town business

Salaries - Makie moved to adopt Resolution # 1 - Payment of 1

Constable - Rick Dobson suggested FloydriHoover . Supervisor
moved to table any appointment of any constables u
until February meeting .
Historian - Peter moved to appoint Mrs . Tresa Cortright Town

Zoning Officer - Makarainen moved to appoint Harry Hatfield
Building and Zoning officer . Seconded by Makie .

Chairman of Assessors - Peter moved to appoint William Bergman
Chairman of assessors . Seconded by Makie . 5 ayes ,

Supervisor Cortright requested the present Town Board
Committees to hold over until February meeting .
Executive meeting of the Town Board scheduled for
January 27 , 8 : 00 P . M .
Barber made the motion that the Town of Danby buy used plow
equipment from the County in the amount of $ 2 , 043 . 00 .
Seconded by Makie . 5 ayes , 0 noes , carried .
Youth Recreation - Supervisor met with Esther Dotson and III
George Clarkson of the Community Council to reach an II I
understanding on funds received from the Council .
It was concluded that the Town Board , Executive Committee
of Con unity Council and Ed Sebring , Area Director ,
Division of Youth , Meet to come to right decisions .
Peter moved to pay General Fund Bills totalling $200 . 28 # 1
through # 8 as listed on Warrant 1 . Seconded by Barber .

Makie moved to pay Highway Bills totalling $ 1 , 426 . 83 # 1
throug. hl # 12 as listed on Warrant 1 . Sedonded by Makarainen .

Peter moved to accept the Supervisor ' s Report . Seconded by

Peter moved to adjourn at 10 : 30 P . M .
